  • Restaurant in Savannah?

We will be in Hilton Head next week and we're driving to the Savannah airport on Saturday night to get my dad. We've never been to Savannah before. We'd like to take my dad for dinner when he arrives. We will also have an 8 year old with us. Any advice for a restaurant where we can experience a little bit of Savannah?

I'm currently at Foxrun at Lake Lure -- no internet in the rooms -- so I won't be back online probably until tomorrow. Just so no one thinks I'm ignoring responses

    Thank you.

The only one good historic one I have ever heard about is Mrs Wilkes, but they are only open for lunch www.mrswilkes.com

I am no expert. Hopefully someone who knows that city can make more recommendations.

      Debi,

I really liked Savannah, but it's been too long to remember restaurant names. When I was there, my kids were teenagers, and we walked the entire city over a few days. If you leave early, you can spend the day. Lots to see & do.

Lots of restaurants on River Street.

      Enjoy!

The only place where I have eaten is The Olde Pink House. Very nice historic building and good food. For a Friday night you will probably need reservations. Took my 88 yr old mom there and she really liked it.

Thanks everyone. Angela -- I'll check that out. My husband likes those shows. And, Pat -- I wanted to go to the Olde Pink House, but I didn't know how it would be with my 8 year old. Thoughts?

            Thanks!

Your 8 year old may enjoy Vinnie Van Go Gos for pizza. Sold by the slice, huge slices and you sit outdoors. One slice will do it. You'll find it on a corner in the City Market area.

The pink house, might be a little quiet and boring for your child.

Me thinks we have it matey!!! AAARRRRRRR The Pirate House It's in an old historic house that is near the river. Shiver me timbers but the waiters are dressed like pirates @the kids get a pirate hat to wear. I've never eaten there but it gets good reviews on Trip Advisor. I would have recommended Mrs Wilkes over Lady & Sons but like mentioned I think it's only lunch. Have fun.

Have you gone gem mining yet? It's near where you are staying and think the little one would like it.

                  Hi Everyone,

Thanks for all the suggestions. By the time we got from the airport to the historic district, AND then found parking, all planning flew out the window. None of us had ever been to Savannah so we just wanted to walk along the river and explore a little. The street along the river is so pretty. We ended up going to the Cotton Exchange Tavern & Restaurant right on the river. We waited about 45 minutes for a table -- luckily there was a souvenir shop a few doors down so my daughter and her Papa killed some time in there looking for ANOTHER stuffed animal souvenir from her vacation. It was getting late so I just had a salad but my dad and husband both had seafood meals that they really enjoyed. We had a really great waitress who really made the experience wonderful for us. I'd like to go back to Savannah again -- next time for longer. It is such a pretty city.

                  Thanks again for everyone's suggestions.

Hi Shaggy -- we did go gem mining in Lake Lure last week -- she loved it!! We didn't go to the one at Chimney Rock though -- we went to the one just minutes from Foxrun. There were only two families there so we really got nice one-on-one service. The owners told my daughter what every single gem was that she found in her bucket. It was a little pricey ($25) -- but we all enjoyed it.

Ditto for Olde Pink House. Classic Savannah history and service, great food.
