  • Timeshares with damage or closure due to Sandy

Please list the timeshare resorts that have suffered damage or temporary closure due to damage from Hurricane Sandy.

On the North Carolina Outer Banks, based on resort website info:

    - Ocean Villas II is closed until further notice due to unspecified damage

    - Ocean Villas I had a limited amount of water in two units. They will be back in usable condition by Saturday according to the website

    - Golden Strand is not reporting any damage on their website, and they are one of the more vulnerable ones. The other vulnerable timeshare, Dunes South does not have a website, so no info. Hatteras Island apparently got hit harder than the northern and central beachs, so Hatteras High might be a question mark, too. At the very least, NC 12 to get to Hatteras High is closed at least from the north.

-The Windjammer, High Dunes, and Outer Banks Beach Club I and II, as well as the Duck t/s properties usually come thorugh worse hurricanes unscathed, so I assume they did so this time.

The Golden Strand's website,http://www.goldenstrandobx.com/ has been updated and now has:

The dune in front of the Golden Strand (North End, original bdg) put up a good fight for 2 days, but this morning it was breeched and pretty much leveled from First St to the elevator. Strand South dunes (in front of M,N,O,P units) held and is in relatively good condition without over wash.

The office and northern laundry room have major water damage. The GS still has several occupied units with electricity and cable, but no internet or phone service. Little interior damage is expected to the oceanfront rooms.

Sand is everywhere as over wash continues to occur with every high tide on the northeast corner. Clean up of sand will start as soon as the over wash stops and weather improves. Other than clean up, our major expense will be to rebuild most of the dune.

From the Legacy website - As of Tuesday, October 30, 2012, Legacy Vacation Club Brigantine Beach is closed for the safety of our guests due to damage sustained as a result of Hurricane Sandy. The resort will remain closed until damages can be fully assessed and necessary repairs completed.

I own here so I'm curious how bad the damage is. The resort is right on the beach.

I imagine the damage is extensive. The pictures I have seen for Atlantic City and Brigantine Beach are horrifying.

Bluegreen's Atlantic Palace is still closed as of Last Updated: 11/1/12 12:30 p.m. From what little I have gleamed from the Canadian News Reports AC in NJ was one of the hardest hit, so I suspect it may be closed for awhile, although not sure exactly what damage has been done as there have been no other reports.

It is/was a great resort. Have a corner unit on the 7th flr with great views. Rented it out every year to the same person. It's a very old building that reminds you of the old hotels that used to be on the shore. I would think that there will be high assessments to repair it, if it can be repaired.

OTOH, the Sandcastle Resort on Cape Cod had virtually no damage.
