Can someone help me understand day use a little better?

Some timeshares offer it and some don't, right? Why?

If you own a week that's 'every other year' do you only get day use in the years you're using your week or do you get it every year?

I'm not aware of anyplace that is selective about EOY, the theory being that most owners don't live near enough to cause a congestion problem. There are exceptions, and policies change with overcrowding, etc.. It is a resort-specific choice/option, and I would not want to be staying at a place very busy with day-users but I can see the attraction of buying nearby for use of gym/pools/etc.

It seems like the points type ownerships don't have day use. That is probably because the owners own a slice of too many pies.

GPP and Seapointe both offer day use, which is basically the use of the fitness rooms and the pools. Seapointe also has all the beach equipment which can be checked out.

Marbrisa doesn't offer day use, but it did when it was owned by GPR. In HGVC, even though you'd still own a "week" in one resort, you get treated like an owner at all of their resorts. My guess is that they don't want to deal with too many people coming in for day use. I did read a review on TripAdvisor where someone staying at Marbrisa was very unhappy that so many day users were at the pool.

Owning every other year doesn't make any difference on day use, at least at none of the resorts that I know about. The only thing that matters is what size unit you own. If you own a 2 bedroom that sleeps 6, you can have a total of 6 people with you during your day use. If you own a studio that sleeps 2, you can have a total of 2 (counting yourself) with you during day use. The deeded owner needs to be with any guests and counts towards the maximum # allowed.

Carlsbad Inn offers day use as well. I think it's a "throw away" offer in most cases because out of town owners really aren't going to take advantage of it.

OTOH, I live just a few miles from Seapointe and have used the gym three times already. Too much fog right now for the pool!

I own at a resort that has day use privileges.
I've used it several times just for the free parking and beach chairs.
It's nice to be able to go to the beach and park somewhere you know you won't be towed, have access to free beach chairs, the BBQs and the pool.
Just wish they had an after hours bathroom. During the day you can use the office bathroom.

There is another resort here in town that also offers day use.
They are a points system as well as a weeks system resort in the Bluegreen family.
You need to be deeded at the resort to use the day use option.
They want you to call ahead and see if they aren't crowded before you come.
It's a nice place to own for day use because it has more amenities than my other timeshare.
Not that I'm gonna use the gym while at the beach.
Lifting the margarita glass is the most exercise I want to do on the beach.

I have a regular gym membership. I'm experimenting to see if Seapointe offers enough of a workout for me so I can temporarily suspend my gym membership (and save a few bucks) and enjoy training by the beach while the weather is warm.

AFTER training, you can find me near the margarita machine.

I disagree about points-based systems not offering it. Bluegreen Vacation Club offers it, but as has been mentioned, it is up to resort discretion. During prime season, it is less likely to be granted.

Is this still true? So, for example, if I bought at Carlsbad Inn I could use the huge lap pool and parking at Pacific Palisades? That would make ownership there more valuable to me.

I was interested for a local resort, Tahiti Village. It is supposed to have a really nice pool area with a long "lazy river" and man-made beach that I think my son and I would enjoy A LOT. But I contacted them and they don't allow day use anymore. But maybe some older owners' contacts include day use? If so could I buy one of those and get day use?

With GP resorts day use is limited to deeded owners. I own at Seapointe and can't use other resorts.

BTW, not all weeks are HGVC at Seapointe and Palisades.

Carlsbad Inn has nothing to do with HGVC at all. It is in the GPR family though.

Yes it is sometimes and there is no standard answer because all resorts are sold differently.

MarBrisa was first sold by GPR and offered day use but the new Hilton sales do not offer day use. So, different rules at the same resort!

You could always buy at Carlsbad Inn and use the City of Carlsbad public pool for laps. It's right up the street.

The locals here do laps in the Pacific. ;-)

Most OBX resorts offer day use, and some have turned that perk into a nice way to offload HOA weeks to locals who buy for the day use. Outer Banks Beach Club I and II, in particular, have had success with that.
