Hello. I purchased a 2 bedroom timeshare resale last year at Sheraton Broadway Plantation in Myrtle Beach, SC. It was a very low price. It was a gold plus floating week deeded week 42. Being it was a resale, I had no Starwood benefits. I went to the timeshare presentation this morning. They offered to get me into the Starwood system with full benefits, move my floating gold plus deeded week 43 to a floating gold plus week 26 for $8,000. This would give me the option to trade within the Starwood resorts on a points system all around the world at their resorts and belong to II for free. We love this resort. Their deal gives us 67,100 points every year and we would have to save a years worth plus of points to get to the places we like in other areas. Is anyone familiar with Starwood? Should I accept this deal? Or am I being ripped off. Thanks.

Where do you want to travel to? The SBP unit will be a very good trader in Interval International, with a preference period for other Starwood resorts. Depending on when you need/want to travel, you can probably exchange in to most of them for the $129/$169 exchange fee. That seems much less expensive to me than shelling out $8000.
I have so far traded my ($1 resale) SBP or Sheraton Desert Oasis units for last summer at the Marriott Manor Club in Williamsburg, this summer in Avon, Colorado, and next summer in Cancun.Scott

I am also a resale owner. Yes, I have to pay a yearly II fee of approximately $89, when u buy directly from Starwood, you have to pay a yearly fee directly to them even if u don't use II.
67,000 is not a lot of Staroptions, the top resorts require 148,000 for a 2br unit, so even two years worth of points won't get you there.
With my resale SBP, I have traded thru II into Harborside at Atlantis multiple times, Westin Lagunamar, Westin Keirland(sp) and Westin Mission Hills. I could have traded into the Hawaii properties.
You are smart to rescind. You can pay for a lot of II exchanges with the $8,000 you have saved.
As you know, with a gold floating week 9-43 you can call at the one year mark and reserve any week in your season. So if you want to go to Myrtle beach week 26, just call one year ahead and reserve that time. Starwood might make you pre-pay your maint fee to do this but you have to pay every January anyway.
You are very smart to rescind....if you really love the resort, you might want to look for a 1BR unit to use as an II trader and keep your two bedroom for when you want to visit the resort

Hi ladybug, and welcome to TS4M's!
Completely agree that you should rescind.....$8000 is a lot of money, for not a lot of points. Unless they're offering you a huge amount of points ($8000 worth, lol) for signing, it makes no sense.
I am a resale owner of week 26 at SBP, and when you have your week deposited into either II, or RCI it makes not difference what week you own, within the season. All weeks are given the exact same trading power, within any given season....Week 26, or week 43 same trading power.
When you deposit into II, you receive the Starwood preference, giving you very good odds of getting an exchange into another Starwood property....When you deposit into RCI, you should split your 2 bdrm into 2-1 bdrms, and you'll get 27 TPU's for each 1 bdrm. 54 TPU's can get 2 exchanges in lots of properties in RCI, or 1 high end property.
BTW, you can also split your week into 2 - 1 bdrms when depositing into II. This way, you can get 2 exchanges for your 2 bdrm, if you don't need a 2 bdrm unit.....You wouldn't be able to put in a request for a 2 bdrm in II using a 1 bdrm, but many times 2 bdrms show up for exchange on II's exchange board, and a 1 bdrm can book them.....Harborside however is more difficult to book a 2 bdrm, using a 1 bdrm....St John & Westin Riverfront Mountain Villas
are pretty much never available, on the sighting board. Everything else you should have no problem.Angela
If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.
BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

As stated you can reserve week 26 twelve months in advance, provided you call at that mark. SBP requires maintenance fees to be paid before reserving or depositing to an exchange company.
Also, I have seen it stated recently on other boards that Westin Riverfront and Steamboat are pretty much never available even with StarOption reservations. St. John will also be pretty rare.Scott

Are you in the older Plantation phase, or the new Palmetto? I have the older one, and I tried out the 12 to 24 month reservation process for that phase in May of this year to reserve my week 26 for 2014. There was some confusion on the reps part, since not many really know about it. Eventually it was worked out and reserved though.Scott
