The importance of calling ahead to confirm

Ok, I decided to call Powhatan first. I told them I wanted to confirm my vacation. They had the reservation for 4BR under MY name. They don't have my friend's name on the reservation. I told them she has a guest certificate and the woman told me that would be no problem. I guess if she had just shown up with the certificate, they could have looked up my reservation which is on the form. Maybe calling ahead was not a good idea in this case. Go figure!

I call, but it is usually one week in advance, think I will move that up to 2 weeks. Thanks for sharing.

Never have called in. Never had a problem. Knock on wood. Now I think I might have to call, especially on my RCI getaway for Pueblo Bonito.

In 2003 I had an exchange to Paris through an independent exchange company (now defunct). I called about a week ahead and could not get through on the number I was given so I called the exchange company. Turns out the resort was closed for remodeling! The exchange company was able to get me another unit, in a better location, but I was getting the fax confirmation (before the internet) as our ride to the airport waited in the drive. Thankfully I had that fax, because the new place had not yet received the confirmation when we arrived about 12 hours later.

I've never called and confirmed before, but after reading some of these threads, I think I'd better, especially for the huge family trip to Kauai coming up!

LOL -- I am now imagining me with my 3 y.o., my 60+ y.o. parents, my sister and DH walking around Kauai homeless and sleeping on the beach. At least two people can sleep inside the rental cars, I guess. ha!
