  • RCI platinum pays off!

I exchanged for 2 units in DVC - a 1BR at Boardwalk Villas for us and a 1BR at Saratoga Springs for my friend.
I just got an email from RCI saying that due to my platinum membership, the SSR villa was being upgraded to a 2BR
    My friend is thrilled.
This is the first upgrade I have received and even though it's not my unit, I'm thrilled too.

That's great news, I've never gotten or known anyone else that's gotten an upgrade. And I almost never see any Platinum-only exchanges that interest me. I'm not planning on renewing.

That's great news Jackie! So glad for your friend!

I didn't renew my platinum membership this year, hmmmmmm........

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

Well, I renewed because I get a few guest certificates now that DH's new job restricts his time off to 2 weeks/year. I have too many weeks and not enough time to use them....
The platinum membership pays for itself with rebate on one combining fee and 2 GC's per year.

I originally became a member to have access to that Affinia hotel in NYC. Once I joined, I never saw it again!

Glad to hear things are working out for you. I think the upgraded memberships can make sense, if you require a few GC's each year, as that can pay for itself. For business owners, etc, who are gifting several weeks a year I think it would be an absolute must.

I debated joining and didn't, now wish I had. Glad it worked for you.

Congrats on the upgrade! I don't know how many RCI vacations we've taken since going Platinum, but it's never come through with an upgrade. For us, the rebates on combinations and extra vacations make it all worthwhile, but I'm glad to hear that somebody is getting those upgrades! I was beginning to think they were just mythical...

We let our membership lapse but we had booked a guest cert before then. I renewed a few months later and got the gc rebate when it was used. So I guess if you are platinum at the time you get the credit.

I just read about RCI Platinum today and was going to call tomorrow. This post makes me think it might be worthwhile, but I'll bet I never see an upgrade, LOL.
Do they do rebates on combining and guest certs for the entire calendar year that you are RCI Platinum, or just starting from the day you join?

By the way, that's a pretty sweet upgrade -- it is a really hard to get resort in the first place!

I believe it's only for the time that you actually belong.
