  • Same Question, A Little Different

If timesharing is so great, why does the industry have to hold you captive when you are done with them?

I don't understand your question. Elaborate some.

Yes, I don't get it either. I used a timeshare last month and when I was done with the week, they let me leave.

This is what Jim does- brings the same thing up over and over again.

If owning a home is so great, why does the government, city, and HOA hold you captive to paying taxes, keeping your property in shape, etc.?

Would any of the answers so far encourage someone who is considering buying a timeshare?

It's more about what you are willing to put up with. If I decide that I don't want my timeshares, I guarantee that I won't be forced to keep them.

                  What's your plan?

For years I always said that when it all goes to hell in a handbasket, we would just walk away (Renee).

And the same p[eople point that out, but don't give an answer.

How'd you get rid of yours?

                      .
My hope is that I would be able to find someone who would like to take over the deed. If that doesn't work, I'll ask my resort to take it back. If that doesn't work, I will just quit paying or donate to a viking ship. If I've already done everything that I could legally, I won't feel bad for ditching them.

I sold three of mine by simple paying transfer fees, and posting on eBay. Even though I had paid the MF's, I made sure the current years use was taken advantage of by myself. There, asked and answered.

After all your years of gains, trading up into units that had signifinanctly more value than the units you were trading in return, I'm sure you can take a small loss. In the end you and everyone else will be a lot happier for it!

Regardless of how y'all feel about me spoiling your celebration of timeshareship, I feel I'm doing a service to those thinking about entangling themselves similarly, so that they may consider both the lows and highs of ownership.
