  • Making Me Crazy ...

I am currently at Marriott Timber Lodge in Lake Tahoe, a great resort. I always like my timeshares to look neat and tidy and I am having a hard time here. This resort, like so many others where I have stayed, does not give you any place to store your food. I have moved around some things in the cupboards to make some room, but still have bread, chips, fruit, etc. all over the counters. After nearly 60 exchanges, the only place that had more than adequate room for food storage was Waterside in Hilton Head. That place had a huge empty pantry for your use.

Nothing against Timber Lodge, I have stayed here before and will again. This is more a comment on the poor design of timeshares in general. Does this bother anyone else?

Yes, it's definitely a challenge for us too. We usually empty a cupboard, by moving the crockery & pots & pans around, to make room for food.

Lol....I understand completely! It's true, most times, theres really no place, other than the frig to store food. Moving stuff out of one cabinet into another is a good idea. Not sure what other options there are. Usually the cab over the frig is empty, or almost empty.

Inevitably, I will also have stuff on the counter.

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

What I find at timeshares is that they spread dishes, posts pans glasses and other cooking implements all over the kitchen. When I arrive, I just consolidate their stuff to 3 or 4 cabinets.

At home, would you have 5 pots in a double cabinets with shelves - nope, you have all the pots stacked on top of each other in one pile on one shelf on one side of that big cabinet.

So that's what I do, it opens up a large amount of space.

I have an exchange for my son there in January. How is it?,

Recently went to Oceana Palms and was shocked that they actually had a pantry.
          Maybe they're getting the message.

It's a big problem at some places and no problem at others. Right now we are in a timeshare where most of our food stuff is on the table- good thing was that we weren't planning on eating in much.

This is so funny - we do a yearly extended family trip and occupy 5 units in the same drive-to resort. We all take turns cooking in our units. Some of us consolidate and try to keep a tidy kitchen, some of us let everything hang out, and one of us (my super organized sister) brings plastic tubs marked "breakfast" "spices" "snacks" "beverages" and never unpacks - just stacks them in the adjacent laundry area so they are readily accessible! When it's time to leave, she doesn't have to throw half-used items in the trash!

When we pack we always take some of our plastic food storage containers from home. They take up almost no space or weight, and we know we will use need them for food storage. If we have some non-perishables when we check out, we can then put them in the containers if we want to keep them - especially useful when we are doing an interisland hop in Hawaii and we have some items that can tolerate not being refrigerated for a few hours.

“This is a blouse and skirt. I don't know what you're talking about.”

                “You shouldn't wear that body.”

Your son will like it here. If he is a skier, Heavenly Valley is practically onsite. There is a gondola dividing the resort. There is one free valet parking space per exchange. More I think, for Marriott owners. Wi-fi works well and is free. You can valet your car and then walk to most everything--casinos, restaurants, grocery, shops, Starbucks, two movie theatres. The one thing we always do, and your son probably will to, is rearrange the LR furniture on arrival. They have it set up awkwardly, with the sofa facing the front door, instead of the fireplace/TV. It has been as low as the 20's at night and we are very warm in the unit, without even using the heat. The staff here is great.

One thing I should have added in my original post, is that bathrooms at some resorts don't even have a place to store a toothbrush. (Not true here). That's a pet peeve of mine also.

Think about what a small problem that is. Some people have the same problem in their house now wouldn't that be bad. We run into the same problem especially when we have my son and his friends with us and are buying for several teenagers but we always figure something out. Glad it is just that and nothing major.

Agree, very small problem. Like I said, I would stay here and at other resorts with the same small problem again.

Pat, I should have added that in January your son will likely need to get chains with his rental car and know how to put them on. Or perhaps with 4WD you can skip the chains. I really don't know.
