Hello,
We were invited to what was supposed to be an owner update for an "informational dinner" on how to "make better use" of our timeshare. The Caller ID said "Mt. Carmel IL" 618-263-9577.
They purported to be "from Wyndham" but, when we got there, it was obvious that they were not. We were promised to be able to order anything we wanted off the menu, but, again, this wasn't so either, there was a limited selection of items.
As they started talking, they mentioned this "new system" that we should have been "converted" to and seemed mystified that we had not been, and had to "check to see if we were even in the right meeting." This new system turned out to be RCI Platinum Points, 10,000 point weeks, and this special add-on that allows the purchase of as many additional 10,000 point weeks for .015 or something like $150.
They supposedly checked "the system" and found we were offered this new system in 2010, but, the offer would not have come FROM Wyndham, according to them, but, FROM THEM, and RCI affiliate, (supposedly), and we ignored the offer.
They said that ALL of Wyndham would eventually be going to this system, and we would be FORCED to convert to this new system without any choice, at whatever cost it is at that time, or be forced to only be able to stay at our home resort and use our amount of points at that home resort.
So, we currently own (and are still paying for) 759,000 points. This new system offered 87,000 points. But, EVERY resort EVERYWHERE would be no more than 10,000 points no matter when it was booked, EVER, so that was at least 8 weeks, and many would be 8,000 points, so it could be more weeks. They were selling for $87,000.00 and would credit us $62,500 for our 759,000 points, leaving a balance due of 24,500 + 5,950 for the add-on program that allows all the extras.
The maintenance fees for our current points are about 380 something per month, but, the new program's maintenance fees would be $870 per year.
This all sounds very fishy, and was NOT Wyndham, but, would allow us to USE Wyndham, RCI, II, and all the same with no exchange fees, and whatever.
Unfortunately, I didn't get the exact name of these people but, it was something like Five Star Travel, but, there was more to it than that.
I'm right outside of the St. Louis, MO area, and one of the reps claimed to be from Oswego, IL and another, the one who spoke to us claimed to be from Ottawa, IL.
Can anyone here shed some light on what was going on with us at this meeting? What was up here?
