  • VacationGuard travel insurance question

Has anyone had experience with canceling a trip using Vacation Guard Timeshare Plus protection? We have a trip planned to PV for mid January and my husband has significant back problems and will probably not be able to travel by then. This is our annual snowbird trip and we are supposed to be gone for 7 weeks- all T/S. Some weeks we own, some are exchanges.

Do you have any idea how they value Maintenance fees for weeks given RCIs new TPU system? I called and had a hard time even finding someone who could answer my questions. And this was speaking to the Claims department, not just customer service - it took 4 tries. I was told to cancel my exchanges, but then RCI will rebank them at greatly reduced values. If I do that, they will give me my week back, at 45% of its original TPU value. In that case would Vacation Guard say - "you didn't lose anything because you got your week back"? Also, I wonder how would they value a "Deposit Credit".

Has anyone filed a claim recently with Vacation Guard, or even spoken to them about how it works with RCI now?

Hopefully we will not have to cancel everything, but right now it is not looking very promising. I appreciate any information.

I just cancelled my VacationGuard TimesharePlus Insurance because I realized that it was not covering my upcoming vacations. Personally, I find their coverage, and "yearly usage" to be rather confusing.......At any rate, my understanding is that they do not get involved with points, but rather reimburse you for any out of pocket expenses such as maintenance fees & exchange fees. I didn't specifically inquire about RCI, but I'm guessing that it works the same way regardless of the timeshare, or exchange company. If you cancel your weeks, I would think that your maintenance & exchange fees would be refunded.

Just make sure that the weeks you are thinking about canceling are actually covered! They must be weeks that were purchased & booked for vacation within the same year of coverage, as far as I can tell. Like I said, very confusing!

    edited to add:

Sorry, I didn't mean to say "purchased," I meant to say "booked."

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

I have had coverage for several years. My understanding is they cover a 24 month period, in that case. You are right, it is very confusing.
