  • Big Change in how RCI awards Gold Crown status

Talking to a board member of an OBX resort recently, I learned of a big change in how RCI awards Gold Crown status.

Silver Crown and Hospitality status have always been based on pure numbers, while Gold Crown was based on numbers plus meeting the requisite number of checklist standards, most of which had multiple alternatives of how to meet them. The numbers for Silver Crown and Gold Crown were based on the resort hospitality, check-in / Check out, resort maintenance, unit maintenance, and unit cleanliness scores. When I was HOA president our numbers met Gold Crown except one where we were 0.1 short and expected that to go up. We already could check a number of boxes on the amenities list for GC status, and could have added enough others to qualify, but after discussion chose not to do so.

This year, however, RCI is awarding GC like they do with SC and Hospitality, on the numbers alone. I guess that saves the resort inspections that were necessary with the amenities checklist evaluations.
