  • recently purchased an HGVC timeshare. Should I rescind?

my wife and i went to vegas for the cheap weekend getaway and time share presentation with no intention of buying. 3 hours later we're signing paperwork for 2500 points every odd year, with 10,000 bonus points for buying that day, at a total cost of just over $11,000.

we spent a ton of time in the sales area talking it over between us discussing how often we'd like to take vacations, would this help/force us to go on vacations more, this will be worth it over the course of our lives cause we can find a way to make the best of the system so it can pay for itself basically. I'm hoping this is kind of a normal convo for first time buyers.

but now i'm looking online and a lot of things say I should send it back so I can buy resale since it'll be so much cheaper and the bonus points probably weren't worth it. I also can't seem to find anyone that's really happy with their HGVC timeshare.

my question: did we get a good deal? should we rescind the purchase (i can do that within 5 days right?)? Is HGVC even worth having?

    please help

The general "rule" is, if you are paying full retail you should rescind. I don't have any experience with how worth it an HGVC would be.

If you are questioning it, rescind.

Now, today while you are still able to do it.

Then read more online about the system and if it works for your travel needs.

Understand that buying high or medium season has the same maint fee as low but you get a lot more for your money.

After you decide all of these things only then should you consider a purchase.

And if you are financing the purchase. Definitely do not do it.

Rescind now. Ask questions later. Doesn't sound like a good deal, you don't even have enough points to book a prime destination/week - $11,000 is way too much to pay for that!!!!

That's where my thought is whenever I see this question (and it has been a consistent question for the 17 years I've been on Internet timeshare forums).

If a person knows enough to ask the question, they already know what the answer is, but just want to hear it from someone.

I own HGVC and it's a great system but I purchased resale thru a real estate broker.
I would rescind now and take your time studying HGVC and see if it really meets your needs.
HGVC really is concentrated in very few places so unless you happen to like vacationing in those
areas it may not be the best choice for you.

I live in FL and HGVC has a big presence in this state so it's a good fit for me.

Look at their resort list and see if you want to vacation at these places every year.
If so then you may enjoy owning HGVC although 2500 points won't go very far in HGVC.
I'd not purchase less than at least 5K every other year.

The marketing overhead for developer sales of timeshare is over 50% of what you pay in developer prices. Rescind and buy resale.

I would never buy a TS in Las Vegas. It is very easy to exchange into Las Vegas which translates to low trading power if you wish to exchange it.

Go to EBAY and enter a search for HGVC. This should be all you need to decide. 4500 points, $1. Many more like this.

I don't understand why that doesn't really upset more people . . . the industry selling stuff for thousands of dollars that people they've already sold to can't even get a buck for.

I guess as long as it's not someone's problem personally, it's OK with them.

I don't really get your post.

What makes you think it does not upset us?

If we did not care, we would not reply to the person and tell them to rescind.

Do you care? Why do you respond if you do not?

Every day people buy timeshares. They want to live the lifestyle that is promised. And they do.
A small percentage says....I bet there is a better way, let me check out the Internet.

They search for timeshares and they find us.
The members here (and you are one ) respond and give their opinions.

There are people who decide even after searching and asking questions that retail purchase is what they want.

It is okay if people decide that.

It is okay if people buy things at full retail stores. I know I can get paper towels for $0.50 per roll at Costco and at King Kullen or Stop n Shop it is $1.29 per roll for the same item.

Sometimes I order stuff from Amazon for $5.00 that I know I can buy locally for $3.29 but convenience outways cost.

If people ask our opinion, we can give it but the ultimate decision is theirs.
