I realize the few of you who hang out here really like your timeshares, and I respect that, even though you bitch about the little things that annoy you.

But . . . seriously . . . don't you think the concept of timesharing has had it's day, and it's mostly over?

When you check stuff on RCI, which, as I recall, at one time was just stuff deposited by other owners, now there's plenty of $300-or-less rentals. ($229 recently)

Right now, in my window, there's 358,551 rentals.

Where's the "timesharing" part any more?

But even with those rentals, especially for the cheaper ones, you are staying in timeshares-not hotels and not private condos. When I have rented condos for the week, I usually either have to bring my own sheets or pay an additional fee and that is on top of the $100-$200 cleaning fee added to the rental price and possibly also pay to park.

Staying in timeshares, when you can get them, at times and locations when you want to travel, is just about the most economical way to travel when you want to stay a full week starting on the weekend. Thanks to points systems it can also work out quite well traveling for shorter stays especially when you can avoid the weekend.

Yes, it's a great way to get low-priced rentals.

Some of those three letter outfits suck, RCI in particular. They got worse when they went to points and when they started cancelling exchanges in the last minute window that was when I had enough. The thousands of cheap rentals are mostly crap I don't want or at a time I don't want to go. As for other three letter outfits like JLB, when you buy crap, satisfaction is not guaranteed, and crap is hard to even give away. JLB is also the person this emoji was imported for.

I get time (my week) in a unit I share with all the other owners. How is that not timesharing?

I do recognize that timeshare trading is not what it once was. But that window was closing when we bought in, probably in psty for the same reason we bought in the first place; points systems fit more people's vacationing needs better than the traditional weeks traded through RCI and the like. Plus there are a lot more people who own Timeshares, making it tougher for any one individual to get great deals regularly.

          Life is change, my friend.

It's nice that three or four can have these stimulating discussions every now and then.
