      Bama,

TUG is Timeshare Users Group, another time share resource website & forum. You can find the TUG forums, here

      Hi Everyone!

I got my introduction to timesharing growing up as the family vacations were mostly timeshare oriented. The ones I remember the most were Palm Springs, Wave Crest in Del Mar, Lawrence Welk Resort Villas in Escondido, Orange Lakes Country Club in Orlando & the Olympic Village Inn in Squaw Valley.

Unfortunately, my parents have only been in the resale market for disposal, not acquisition & probably haven't gotten very good value out of what they've owned in the past & currently own. Through them, I've run the gamut in timeshare ownership experiences from the well-managed & maintained to the downright-worthless-couldn't-pay-someone-enough-to-take-it-from-you, wouldn't-stay-there-or-wish-it-on-your-worst-enemy resorts.

We own DVC because we knew we definitely wanted to use that at peak times. My family owns Starwood, Wyndham & a fixed week at Lawrence Welk. Each one definitely has its uses, but not surprisingly, we're still not covered in exactly what we'd like to do.

This seems like a fun, close-knit community...right on with the fantasy football (is there a waiting list for next year?), sports talk & general discussions! Thanks for the forum & how you've put it together!

      • seeking timeshare info ....

Hi.. brand new today. Has anyone been to Half Moon Resort in Jamaica?
It is gorgeous and rarely has a rental or sale. I might want to sell mine and not sure how to go about it.

Also own a timeshare in Cape Cod and the Dominican Republic. Looking to buy one in Newport Rhode island..maybe the Wyndham Long Wharf in Newport RI

Also, does anyone know about the Palm Pavilion in clearwater,Florida. I don't think they offer timeshares ????

          • New Member Hello

            Hi,

Just found this forum and joined today. My husband and I own a floating week (winter ski week) at Marriott Streamside at Vail in the Evergreen building, purchased in 1996. Our time share experience has been mixed. When the kids were young and our knees were in better shape we used the unit for a ski week every year. But, for the last 4 years we've have strictly traded for Marriott points or exchanged into Interval International.

It seems to be getting ever more difficult to reserve a good floating week in the Marriott system and I've never really trusted II's exchange system. I would like to chat with other Marriott owners about getting the most out of there time share. Looking forward to talking to you all.

            Corinne

              Hi all,

My name is Kathleen and live on the north shore of Boston. We have a snow storm going on now..up to about 8 inches so far and still coming down. It has been a rough winter already.

I bought my first timeshare in 1994 at the Half Moon club in Jamaica. It is week 9 and the purchase was for 25 weeks. It is a beautiful villa with patio almost sitting in the ocean. Own two other timeshares, one in Cape Cod at Holiday Estates, Mashpee, and the other in the Dominican Republic. We head out to the DR in just three weeks. Looking forward to some warmth and sun.

I am a Licensed Mental Health counselor ( psychotherapist) and also a Hopsice RN. Live with my boyfriend, Paul, who just retired. He was the English department head at a large high school a bit south of Boston.

We hope to go to Ireland this summer. I love to travel and know that I am not taking full advantage of RCI... it often does not make sense to turn anything in. Exchanging always leaves us with a little less then we banked.
I am looking forward to learning how to exchange better and how to rent our own units. Have no idea how the point system works??? And ok, I will look up TUGS right now.... So much to learn.

              • Hi, Shawn here. Own 4 BR Summit at Massanutten. Upgraded from Eagle Trace. We have been happy with the exchanges we have made over the past 11 years of vacation ownership.

                Live in Northern Virginia.

                • New member seeking your suggestions

My name is Michael and my wife Nancy and I live in the Pacific NW. We have owned a Shell Vacations CLub timeshare in Hawaii for the last ten years. We purchased ten years ago to take breaks from the harsh NW winters. Due to my untimely job loss this last year, we have decided to offer our timeshare up for sale. I would like to hear from anyone on what is the best way to do this. I understand that there are companies that can help in this process, if anyone has any suggestions that would be great. We are both near retirement and we need to scale back on our finances till then. Looking forward to hearing back from anyone willing to offer advice. Thank you.

                  • Watch out for many of the reselling companies, Michael. They will tell you a bunch of lies and need an upfront chunk of money. It is highly unlikely that they will sell your timeshare for you. You could start with a free classified ad here- but first you need to come up with a price- preferably on the low side of the real market value. Ask lots of questions here- we have nothing to gain financially.

                    • Introduction -

My name is Tamara and my husband and I own 2 timeshares: Villa Mirage in Scottsdale since 1998 and Grand Pacific Palisades in Carlsbad since 2002.

We have a "hobby" of going to timeshare presentations and it's fun to see how quickly we can get in and out. Our record is 20 minutes at the Shell Legacy resort in South Phoenix. And that was going through the salesman, manager and after-market person. We came close to that at the HGVC in Hawaii but the salesman went outside to smoke a cigarette (and probably cuss us out under his breath) :-)

Our Villa Mirage unit has been for trade only and our Grand Pacific unit is our "run away from 110 degree temps" place. Recently, we've gotten so disgusted with RCI, we caved and converted to Diamond's "The Club". I'm sooo glad to be affiliated with II now.

I've lurked for awhile but have never posted much or introduced myself...so here I am. I've appreciated all the great info I've gleaned her.

                      • Tamara, there is a private Grand Pacific Resort group here that you might want to join. Go to the forums list to find it- you must apply.
