  • for sale: RCI membership

Looking for a starting point in wanting to sell an RCI membership. The arrangement is not working out for us, and we are not able to use the weeks. So, currently, we would have two weeks for sale (price to be determined) in october, and additionally, would like to sell fully paid membership before end of year. Has anyone ventured down this path before to give us some advice? Where is the best place to advertise these sales, and get the best return on our investment?

    thankx

Sounds like you are wanting to sell your resort (or points) ownership, plus your RCI membership.

For some general guidelines, I would look at some 'completed auctions' on ebay to get an idea of what units or points packages similar to yours have sold for. Since you ask about 'return on investment,' I fear you may be in for a surprise -- resale prices pale in comparison to prices paid to developers...

Some other avenues for resales include redweek.com, bidshares.com, and a few others you can find by googling 'timeshares for sale.' You can also list all the specifics of what you are selling in the Classifieds section here, under Website Navigation in the upper left.

Good luck and Welcome to TS4ms!

      Well, 1st of all

The chance of receiving anything resembling your investment is little to none..

If you let us know what your resort is, where it is located, and why you have October weeks( I assume these are 2004 and 2005 banked with RCI) we can give you some idea of what you can expect to recapture.

Just as a side note, the rest of 2006's RCI has little to no value, and the space banked weeks are only worth what somebody will pay.

You could also just cancel your RCI membership and get a prorated refund. Of course you don't want to do that while you have weeks in the bank as you would lose them.

If your October weeks are not banked with an exchange company, you might be able to rent them. We are here to help...let us know the details of ownership, where, size units, if they are banked or not, etc.

As for selling your membership, I don't think that is possible....if it is just the membership you are talking about....best I have heard is what Tony stated, asking for pro-rated refund, but that will hurt, as it probably has little value left.

Give us specifics and you will get lots of advice.

RCI weeks for rent--October --need advice

            OK--

Responding specifically to Katiemack's questions....We have 2 weeks banked with RCI, which expire Oct. 31st. We cannot use these weeks and would like to rent them....how has this arrangement worked for others in the past in terms of booking and payment to the owner(us)? We have friends who may be able to use the weeks also--what have people seen as the going rate for RCI rental weeks--providing there is availability left in any prime locations for October!

sounds like trying to sell the membership is a bad idea based on the ROI.

RCI will not allow you to rent out the banked week. Once you give it to RCI, it is their. You can either transfer the banked week right to another RCI member, or reserve a week for non-RCI member and ask RCI a Guest Certification.

What arrangement between you and your friend should stay that way. If you advertise to rent the week, your friend may get reject when try to check-in. Officially, RCI only allow you to recover the exchange fee plus the GC cost if you make reservation.

As to RCI membership, you can always cancel it and get back refund, unless you belong to a mini-system and your membership fee for that system pays your RCI membership. Unless you also sell your TS, there is no reason a TS owner want to take over the membership. If they own a RCI affliated TS, they can open an account with them

Travelinstyle...if your weeks are banked and expire on Oct 31 of 2006, you do not have to lose their value. You can contact RCI and extend the deposit for 6 months or a full year (for a fee of course.) As for your friends who might have use for the weeks....you don't mean the actual weeks at the resort you own, as they are no longer yours to rent...you gave them to RCI to use. In exchange, you get to exchange your weeks for whatever you find...at this late date, it might be slim pickings for what you really want. If your friends want to use the exchange, you can only charge them what the cost incurred to you adds up to (i.e. maintenance fees and exhange fees)....keep in mind that RCI has a really strict policy against members renting for profit.

                Hope this helps.
