What happened with Sunterra Club Select? How do you get additional sunoptions from Sunterra without spending a fortune? I

You're going to have to be a little more specific. What do you mean by What happened with Sunterra Club Select?

www.sunterraselect.com lets anyone, member or not search for Club Select availability. It is available to the public for cash and to members for points or less cash, you have to log in to see these options. This inventory comes from Club Sunterra members that 'deposit' their non-sunterra weeks that may be accepted by the Club. There is a fee of about $99 (or less for Elite members) for this priviledge.

Again, What do you mean by What happened with Sunterra Club Select? Do you know something?

You can add to your SunOptions by buying resale and doing the 'dance' for $2995. Have you read all the posts on this forum? Do you have a more specific question?

I can't answer this question directly, but when I asked my resort about points, they told me that because my resort was in great demand by points owners, that they would let me convert for $300. I didn't follow up, but if someone wants to convert, perhaps there is a lot of wiggle room in the price.

I can do you one better. Once, when I was calling into Club Sunterra, one of the phone maze options was "If you are a Polynesian Isles owner press 6." Not being an owner, but being curious as this wasn't a normal menu item, I did. They were being offered $199 conversion.

RE: Sunterra Select has been operational for a least 4 years and I have not heard anything about Club Select for 3 years. I neglected to look into the history of Sunterra through the threads. I chose Google 1st and there has not been any info on the web since 2004.

I do not know anything different about Club Select than what you reported. Will Sunterra make it? Under the reign of Nicky Boy I had my doubts. The new management? The reason for my question is because I do not trust RCI Weeks at all and the resort I am thinking of depositing does not get a true value in RCI Points.

Sunterra SunOptions through II has been a WINNER for me.

I am a Polynesian Isles owner. Guess they really want us to convert to points. Interesting.

That was a looong time ago, could never get an answer whether it was driven by the resort or sales or the Club. Wanted to know 'cause I anted the same offer for Powhatan/Greensprings.

Should this thread be moved to the Sunterra forum?

I just purchased in the spring at Polynesian Isle. A few weeks ago, I just got my confirmation letter from Sunterra. I just logged into my account and I have a points value listed for my week. (4500 points). I will have to call Sunterra and get the story. I will post my adventures.

We'll anxiously await hearing about your experiences. Why did it take from 'Spring' to September to get a 'confirmation' letter from Sunterra?

It was late spring when I purchased and in my option Timeshare Closing Services are not the speediest bunch. I have a few questions about Sun Option and you seem to be the expert, Spence.

I currently have a fixed week at the Polynesian. If I was to join Sun Options it could basically become a "float" week in the point level that I have purchased based on availibility. I would also have the option to use the Sun Points for other the additional member resorts outlined in the literature. I would also recieve II membership. (If I read everything right)

                        But a few questons...

Given the current problem with Sunterra Europe and the thinking that Sunterra may go up on the action block, if I was to convert to Sun Options then decide it was not for me, I would return to my fixed week usage as the property is deeded. Is this correct?

Would I have the ability to bank my Sun Option week with a different exchange company? (SFX or DAE) if they would accept the week/resort?

Just trying to think it all through and play all the angles.

In my opinion, Polynesian Isles is not a great cadidate for conversion to Club Sunterra and SunOptions because of the relatively high MF/pt ratio. You've stated that they've told you that your week would convert to 4500 points, what maintenance fees are you paying??

If when you convert, you only give the Club the rights to your week on an annual basis, you could at any time quit and have your usage as defined by your deed. Sometimes the conversion is to give up your deed and take membership in the CSV-1 'Trust.' Not necessarily a bad thing, you just need to know what the offer is and what you are doing.

I have never heard of anyone reserving a Club Sunterra week and then banking it with an independant exchange company. That is something to ask the exchange company you're interested in (and then report the answer back to the Sunterra forum).

Current M/F are 624 (.14 per point if I was to convert). I figured I may be able to deposit a "better" Sunterra week and get more bang for the buck with a trade. I guess my first step will be to find out what my options are for the conversion and go from there.

Your MF/pt are as I expected, that is horrendous. Ways to guage this are to look at what the current selling CSV-1 'Trust' MFs are, I'm told they are around .062/pt once you take out the Trust/Club annual membership fee. The Club has FeeOptions where you give them your SunOptions towards MFs and they only give .0585. So MFs below .0585 are good.

If a deposit to an independant exchange company were possible (your job to find out for us) you'd just be adding to your costs with any membership fee there plus any exchange or guest fees.
