Hey Luanne......... Columbus Day in San Francisco means FLEET WEEK. The Blue Angels perform on Saturday and Sunday. Last year, we watched one of those fighter jets fly underneath the Golden Gate bridge at 500 mph. Exciting stuff, but I think those poor people who happened to be crossing the bridge at that very moment must have been near cardiac arrest.

This reminds me of when I was in San Diego when in college, I was on a bus passing by the end of a runway at the airport and this jet is landing. I almost had cardiac arrest. I thought that sucker was about to crash into the bus! It is a funny feeling that's not so funny until you realize you're going to live!

Isn't celebrating Columbus a rather odd thing to do? He wasn't the world's greatest role model. Just think about it -

When he left Europe he headed in completely the wrong direction. When he reached land he didn't have any idea where he actually was, and when he got back he didn't know where he had been.

At least Captain Cook knew where he was going and that he'd discovered a new land when he got there.
