  • Donating Unwanted Timeshare to Charity

A year ago yesterday I looked into an organization that an Internet timeshare buddy had told me about. Since Jenny and I are Adopt-A-Shoreline reps on the same lake this charity is working to preserve, it seemed like a wonderful idea.

But, some folks are not familiar with internet message boards, what we are all about and what we do, so my initial inquiry was received with some skepticism. Trying again, I now find them to be more open, and it appears they have a valid way to get rid of unwanted timeshares.

Check them out for yourself, and make sure you read before you go any further. They will not not accept your timeshare if everything is not paid up-to-date.

PS--It would be nice if this could be sticky-ized, and stay around awhile.

I don't see an address for Tracets Foundation. I have a friend who is interested in donating her timeshares, but she doesn't have a computer, and she doesn't live close by... Where can she send a form? (Or did I miss the address?) Jean

If you go to this website there is a lot of info about donating http://www.giveusyourtime.com/ and it states on the website that should you have any questions, you may call 417-334-0892.

Although I assume Tracets is a fine organization, be sure to ask for a copy of the charity's IRS exemption letter before donating. The charity must be approved by IRS for donations to be deductible.

Unless I have missed it, Tracets isn't currently included in the IRS list of approved tax exempt organizations. That doesn't necessarily mean there's a problem. It's possible that the organization is so new that the IRS hasn't yet acted on Tracets' application for exemption.

For some reason I was looking out at the lake today and thought about this.

I know some folks tend to discredit, to not appreciate things like Internet forums, like here and OY, so they do not pay much attention to them, or understand the value they might be to their organizations. I believe it is that they just don't understand what we do.

We all know how much these forums have meant to The German Language School (and other charitable donation organizations), various closing companies and the resale companies.

I asked Tracets to address Dave's concerns, and was told my request was passed on.

As a Table Rock Lake resident and an Adopt-A-Shoreline rep, as much as I hate to, because Tracets has not been responsive and has not shown any interest in my promotion of their organization here and elsewhere, they give me no choice but to withdraw my endorsement.

              Hello again (Me),

First off I'd like to say that I have replied to your emails every time you have sent them to me. We have been corresponding for a least a couple years. Again TRACETS is in process of changing it's non for profit status. As soon as this is completed our web page will be updated accordingly. If you choose not to "promote" TRACETS that is solely your decision. Good luck in all your future endeavors.

              Kind Regards,
              (Them)
