  • Using the local newspaper to sell

I am in the process of downsizing my timeshare portfolio from 6 weeks to 3.
I have completed the sale of one overseas week, using eBay/UK auctions, and am in the process of selling another, with a deal in place but not yet closed, through Bidshares, also for an overseas week.

I just closed a sale for a US week, which I advertised in the local paper, which was the easiest sale I ever had. Within three days of the ad running, I had money in hand, deed signed and mailed off, and full asking price received.
I also had a number of other interested calls, but the first caller had committed to buy.

What property did you sell and what newspaper....amazing as I find eBay and redweek to have better exposure.

Probably not more exposure in the local paper. Just in the right place at the right time... Carolinian, glad to hear of your successes.

I bought my first unit from a local newspaper ad in 1996. Paid about double what it was probably worth resale, but who knew?

A friend at work had sold me on the benefits of timesharing. I bought a 1br Gatlinburg unit that served me well until I upgraded to a 2br a few years later.

I need to get rid of about 6 to 7 weeks. 14 is to much to handle and use. My family is revolting. It is hard to get rid of them but easy to buy them.
Anyone want to buy a week cheap?

Yep, they are so easy to buy and it's such a deal that it is hard to stop buying. Many of us have or will end up with more than they can use. I think one might be better off owning a week a year less than they can vacation- picking up a last call or last minute rental for that "free" week, if needed. I got all the way up to 9 before reducing to 3- and I think 2 would be an even better number. Hey, you can always buy another should you retire or need more.
Frank I hope you family doesn't take your comment the wrong way: "My family is revolting."

If I were as smart as you, yes! Don't think I would have the brains and energy to maximize the value like you do, though. You're the king!
