  • Selling your TS

I recently bought another TS and am comtemplating selling our other week. I was wondering from some of you veterans whether you use multiple sites concurrently to list your week for sale?

If so, do you use Redweek, bidshares, e-bay, etc? If you could list your top 3.

This would be most useful. Thanxxx to all who respond.

      Jimbo,

I think I would start with the listings you mentioned in your original post. If you are wanting to sell it quick, a possible listing for $1 on ebay with no reserve will have likelihood of selling.

Since you didn't identify the TS you want to sell, I don't know if it is one that is highly desireable or not. If you have hung around here, TUG and Redweek, as well as ebay, you can probably get a feel for how much you should list your TS for.

ebay can give you historical sale prices through its services.

I have never sell any unit, so you can just treat my word anyway you like. Or throw it out.

If you want to get rid of it fast, eBay may have the highest traffic. But you will have less control of the process. Most people put a lower starting bid and low or no reservation just hope there will have enough bid to make the price high enough. This time of season is O.K., the futher it goes to X'Mas, the less chance you will get a good price. Otherwise, you may want to wait till summer.

Bidshare is more seller friendly, but it has much less traffic, so most people put high reservation there. The purpose is to attract some bidder and may have some neg. process. But I probably will not waste too much time there.

If you are not that hurry to sell, you can try this site and tug2.net. Expect it may take some time, even when your price is the lowest. So treat them as you will own it for several more year, do deposit, exchange, reservation. I would put say the 2007 week has been exchanged for x or deposit to RCI or reseved for x week, the price does not include that week, if you want, you can add y amount for that week. And if need, I will do the same for 2008 week. Try to get as better week as you can, and don't forget if you use exchange, it usually can only be GC + exchange fee.

Beside redweek, you can aslo put on myresortnetwork.com or ww.vacationtimesharerentals.com. I believe vacationtimesharerentals allow you to put on free for a cetain time, then you need to pay to extend it, but I am not sure.

you can also put on www.craigslist.org, I think it actually goes to local, so you want to pick a right region for it.

Both redweek and myresortnetwork charges you. If the resort is in popular area around your local (like ocean city to DC), I may try the local paper, it may get better price.

So you don't need to put it on all the places. I will just put on one or two places if I am not that hurry. Then after a time limit, I put it on eBay and let it run.

What week you are selling is of some importance. There are a few specific sites which cater to certain resorts or resort groups. You may also get an idea of what the week is worth if you let us know what it is.

You can also list it here on this site for free. Look in the Classifieds section.

              Managing a sale

I guess the question I have more than anything is do people sell their timeshare by listing it simultaneously on multiple sites? Is this a legit method or are the issues with this approach? If there are issues are any of them legal ones?

I own a 1BR at Marriott KBC and am contemplating selling it. I realize that there are some sites that are better for Marriott but I was thinking about selling my TS by listing it on multiple sites. That was the question I was trying to address.

Thanxxx for all the advice thus far and any help here after.

When I was looking to purchase TS, I notice some resell agent has the AD on several sites. Since redweek, craigslist, myresortnetwork, vacationtimesharerentals, tug, here, local newspaper, eBay, bidshare are all behavior as advertisement agent, I don't believe any of them will ask you to sign any exclusive listing contract. So you can certainly put on differnt site all at once.

I read that in eBay, as a seller, you can pull out an AD, but I could not remember the detail, you may want to search TUG buy/sell/rent forum for detail. It probably something to do with "sell it now" price.

Isn't KBC has ROFR? Maybe you need to disclose it to potential seller. (or maybe not)

I recently purchased a timeshare for the first time and was surprised that the same listing was not only on multiple sites advertised by the owner, but also I found that some units were listed privately and by at least one broker (although there were one or two I suspected even of being listed by multiple brokers). I had actually discussed this with one of the brokers and it appears this is the industry norm.

Since there are many sites to list on and only neurotic buyers (such as myself ) tend to check all of them, the more sites you post the ad on the better your resale exposure and, ultimately, the better you can expect to do pricewise.

I was also surprised to see the number of timeshares listed on Craigslist. A lot of people today know about Craigslist and are unawares of all the timeshare Internet sites and, since Craigslist is free, I would definitely post ads there (I would consider posting in several of the major markets; people might look at the list where the property is located or in their Craigslist city).

I listed at only one place and sold in three months. I used www.myresortnetwork.com It was free to list then but I am told there is a fee now. You are in complete charge. You change your ad as you see fit. I used one of the closing agents listed on the site. No problems at all, had my money in 4 weeks.

EBay has been my favorite place to sell. Make a good ad, and will sell at market value. No reserve usually works best or a low reserve.
