  • Has anyone driven across this bridge?

I post this once before titled Millau Viaduct in France. I thouhgt I would repost it with a different title. This is an awsome bridge.

    "Millau Viaduct, France
When it opened on 17 December 2004, the spectacular Millau Viaduct set new standards in both planning design and construction - without mentioning the record it set as the largest cable-stayed bridge in Europe.

At 2.4km long, and 270m above the river at its highest point, the Millau viaduct spans a 2km valley in the Massif Central mountain range and forms the final link in the A75 highway from Paris to Barcelona. Despite its huge length, journey time over the structure is expected to be just one minute. "

No, but I've been across this one. Not as big or long but very nice.

Where is it located? I haven't driven over many big bridges and this one looks like it could be put on the must see things list for me to do.

I have only driven over the old version before the crash but the new one is constructed very similarly to Mike's.

The Sunshine Hiway is an experience.

It's called the Fred Hartman bridge between Baytown and LaPorte, Texas. Both just south of Houston. There was an underground tunnel there for decades.

However, if you are not down Houston way, there is an almost exact replica of this bridge that crosses the Mississippi between St. Louis and Alton, Il. I believe, but don't hold me to it, it is US Hwy 66.

Man, the difference between the old one and the new one is dramatic! It's funny how the old cable bridge technology has come back into vogue.

Those old stone bridges have an organic beauty that no steel bridge can ever match. Of course, a stone bridge could never be built in the areas spanned by the steel bridges shown.

                      Steve,

Those are some nice looking bridges...clicking on the thumbnail for a bigger image didn't work for me. The April image looks like the Mackinac Bridge.

Each thumbnail for each month works fine for me. (The calendar cover photo - the topmost one in my post - isn't a clickable image, though.)

It doesn't work for me. I did switch to IE 7 a week or 2 ago. I even tried to open in new tab and in new window. Could it be IE 7?

Damn I want to see those pictures larger

Go to my original post and click on the "quote" button. That will show the UBB code. Copy and paste the addresses following the "url=" portion of the code into your browser address bar.

Try this link here because I sent it to my nephew in Holland as his company builds bridges too and he may be interested in this.

I downloaded IE 7 and could not open one single web page so I uninstalled it the same night. I saved a "prtscr" of the message I got every time but it is on the other computer. I prefer the old version as I know what I am doing.
