Tour Requirement Question

Gluttons for punishment that we are, we booked a tour to get Disney tickets for our family. It involved us owing them money and that was put on our credit card. It has posted.

A requirement when we check in for the tour is to present a drivers license and a credit card. Since we've already paid for the tickets, I don't see why I need to present our credit card again. I am thinking just to show it to them, but not let them take it or imprint it.

Having been here before I can see this being one of those things that makes the tour really nasty, by setting a bad tone. That happened at our last OL tour, when the sales wench insisted on knowing where we own, because she is required to collect that information, and I told her it had nothing to do with their tour and was private, personal information.

What would you do?

The purpose for the credit card is the ensure that if you decide you wanted to buy that you could put a deposit down. I have seen resorts flat out reject participants for not having credit cards. So, that requirement is firm.

Regarding the resorts you own. I had a person at Silver Lake tell me the same thing. I just laughed. What I would do is tell them you will tell them that information if they show you their ATM card and tell you the PIN. It is your personal policy that you will only give out your ownership information when the sales person provides that first. And, bring a policy letter in with you to prove it.

They don't take it. They only require you to show it. I would NEVER leave my credit card with a timeshare company.

In this case, since they have already made a charge to our card, seeing it when we check in seems a little excessive. Are they wanting to know if we canceld it just after we made the pruchase with them!?

For this tour most of them are part of an accomodations package, so everyone booking it has already had charges made to their credit card.

I'm tempted to take it but I believe I'll leave my pocket tape recorder at home.

Do timeshare co. have the right to run a credit report? Usually they need a social number but could it be done with name and address only? The credit card would be to see if they have the right person?

Car salesmen imediately run to the back room to get a credit report if you file out an application. Can timeshare salesman do the same?

Has anyone notice timeshare groups accessing there credit report?

I would never give out my social security number unless someone was going to pay me. I doubt if a timeshare developer would run a credit check on anyone unless they were buying a timeshare.

I believe the reason they want to see the charge card is to see if you are who you are and that you really do have a card. As bad as we think ts salesmen are there are a lot of us who go on tours with absolutely no intention of buying (like you & me) There is also a lot of lying about how much we make, etc. There are good and bad on both sides. I think you are setting up an ugly scene by being beligerant from the get go. Be honest and tell them you aren't interested, just wanted the freebies. shaggy

On a related note, I get a letter every year from one of my resorts insisting that they are required by law to have my social security number and asking for it. Since I have no financial relationship with this resort other than as an owner (I don't rent my unit, I don't owe them money, etc), I'm not buying it. I ignore the letter every year.

So you're saying that we should show up at Westgate and tell them we are staying in a 3-bedroom at OL? Actually, we will be in a motel, waiting to check into a 3-bedroom at OL.

Being a human nature thing, some sales people take things well and some don't.

Our last tour the first year we ever did them about 15 minutes into it the lady said, "I can see you're not interested, so just sit here for another 45 minutes and then you can go get your gift." In that instance we were interested but did not emote enough for her! After about 10 minutes the sales manager asked why we were just sitting there and we told him. We got gifted immediately.

About four years ago we got a nice young guy taking a break from the Nike golf tour, selling for OL. We talked timeshare for a few minutes after our reconstituted OJ and jelly roll. Then we talked golf for a few minutes. Then he said, "Why don't you guys go over and get your gift (golf) now?"

No matter what tact we have taken, it has not worked some places.

They can if you need to apply a loan. But unless you sign to allow them to check your credit report, you can sue the credit score company that give out your credit info. In most of the application form for credit card or mortgage, one of the small print is to give them right to look at your report.

The credit card is not to make sure they have the right person. There is no photo in the card. Last I check there are at least 4 people with the same name in this country. The credit card is to make sure you don't have execuse to say "I don't have money with me, let me take these contract back home and send it back with my check". Just like insist on you and your spouse show at the same time, so you will not have any execuse to say " that sounds good, let me bring them back to talk to my DW (or DH)". It is high pressure sale. You have to stay in, so they can apply pressure. Thus they have to take out as many common execuse you could come out as possible.

Ditto that.

I will give them the social security number on a need to know basis. Some managements like starwood have a significant internal leak with regard to phone numbers of owners(see threads on phone calls from upfront timeshare salesmen).

I have decided to use another credit card, one we have had for years and was renewed recently, with new cards. We have not called to activate it so if they try to use it without our approval they will not be able to.

And it doesn't say RCI in big red letters on it.
