  • What kind of Ebay timeshare buyer is this?

While looking at timeshare weeks for sale on Ebay this week I came across a timeshare buyer that seems odd to me. This person has been the high bidder on at least 6 weeks that I know of in the last month. One was won with a bid of $102.50, one was for $3551.01, another for $810.00, another for $1225.00, another for $1499.00, and another for $810.00. I also know that this person as been placing bids on other weeks that were won by others.

This person is very good at getting a winning bid in last 15 sec. before the bidding has ended.

What is this person's game? Any ideas?

yes, he is sniping. You can set you bid to kick in at less than 6 seconds.

go to www.esnipe.com to check it out. It works great.

I bought 4 timeshares just this week. Some people just can't help themselves. At least I didn't buy those 6M Fairfield Points last week. I guess I just have an severe illness, not a terminal one. LOL.

          My guess

My guess is that he/she is setting up a TS rental business. Or else he/she is addicted to buying TS.

In order to resell them at a later date. This is the tradational firesale time of the year for buying TS as MFs become do and people do anything to get out from having to pay them.

Unfortunately, some of us are so addicted that we don't follow through on the selling of the TS after intending to do so when buying it

What about the 6 timeshare weeks?

What do you think is the reason he/she bought 6 timeshare weeks in more than one state since Nov. 15, 2006?

If s/he thinks s/he can resell them, what does it matter where they are?

It could also be someone who has the buying bug. I've seen a couple ebay IDs placing bids on timeshares that I would have trouble giving away. For example, a 77K fairfield deed with NFs *above* $7/K.

I would only suspect a shill if the auctions are all run by the same outfit or group of folks (e.g. laman34 and 43namal). If the bidder is bidding on unrelated sellers, then it's legitimate, if possibly ill-advised.

Why does it have to be a game? While the above bidder isn't me, I have purchased several timeshares in the last several months on ebay because there are some tremendous deals out there now. I have purchased holiday weeks (primarily 4th of July, but also Christmas) at 5 star/gold crown properties for pennies on the dollar. In every instance, I checked rental rates online for the resorts and feel reasonably confortable that, even if I undercut the current rate by a couple of hundred/week, I can rent the resort out at enough of a profit over MF to pay for the resort within two or three years. I also expect that with the deals I got on a couple of the units, I could sell the group for more than what I paid including closing costs, even if I sell through Ebay. Time will tell if the assumptions I am making are right or wrong, but there is no game at all.

I'm not an expert in this, and if I were I wouldn't tell my secrets , but there are many outlets on the web, including Craig's list. Friends/family/coworkers etc. are also potential avenues.
