  • Washington Post Timeshare Articles and Online Chat

In Sunday's (12/17/06) Washington Post Travel Section there are articles about timesharing. The writer toured Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt, Wyndham, Disney and Starwood resorts in Florida (mostly Orlando). Here is a link to the Travel Section articles. They will probably only be available for a couple of weeks.

In addition, there is going to be an online chat about the articles on Monday (12/18/06) at 2:00 P.M. E.S.T.

Lot's of great filler material and only a couple casual references to resales, one saying that while the cost of retail is going up the cost of resale isn't... and one giving the link to TUG with a Bill Rogers quote and an offhand remark about a resale agent.

You really need to be paying attention, if you're going to get what you need out of these articles.
... not enough time for all the timeshares ®

Got at least one thing right

They made one on the mark observation:

"Sure, there are still small companies selling a week at a time at tired properties to hapless tourists. But the old system, in which a buyer bought a specific week in a specific unit at a specific property, has been mostly supplanted by a more flexible product, with owners buying points that can be used for different weeks at various locations."

I like this quote by a guy probably met poolside by the writer:

"If you want to try to go to the Caribbean over spring break, it's going to be a problem," he said. "But if you want to go to a place a lot of people don't want to go, it works great."

Sure does work great! You can get weeks for about 300 bucks a week without depositing a week, most any time of year that the kiddies are in school. Sometimes you can luck into something like a Last Call for $129-199 per week. Wonder if that guy knows about those deals? Shhh...don't tell!
"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed and those who are cold and are not clothed."
          -- Dwight D. Eisenhower
