Hey Jim, it took a while to get you here but you finally made it, Glad you could join us.
I was in Hawaii 4 years ago. I would highly Recommend the Prince-ville area for Kauai. We stayed at a Pahio resort Eao'e Kao I think. In Maui I stayed at Kahana Falls. It was OK nothing to say WOW about.
The only Shell resort that I was at was in the Kona area. Manaloua by the Sea I believe the name was. Very nice resort with a great sunset view just outside the property in the back.

Go to www.igoyougo.com and search for my reviews my user id is big_frank

There are many people that will come here to your aid that have been there recently that know better than me. Check on this thread daily for up dates. Well, one thing in your favor is that if you can do with a 1 bedroom it will be much easier than 2 bedrooms on those islands. There are some nice places on Maui that come up through RCI. We stayed at the Embassy (now Sunterra) this summer and it was really nice. We haven't been to Kauai yet, we're going this summer

where are you flying out of? AA has JFK/LAX/Maui (OGG) flights

the best search engine for flights is www.kayak.com (imho)

Not that I am aware of. There is a site to use that will help you with Priceline bidding www.biddingfortravel.com , I would be very careful posting a question there. They are not very nice there and you have to follow there way of posting to get help.

BTW You need 1 more post in order to see the Exchange Opps board. It will take about 30 min after your 15th post to see it as the system has to update.

                            Jimmy D.
We were in Kauai this past February and were able to use shell points to get Kauai Coast Resort at the Beachboy in Kapaa. We liked that it was centrally located. On a previous trip in 2000, we stayed at a private condo rental near Princeville since we couldn't get in on an RCI trade.
As far as Maui, we stayed at Kahana Falls in March 2004. Like Big Frank said, nothing spectacular but liked the location. Avoid the studio there if you can, really small with a couch that converts to a bed. Be sure to get "The Ultimate Kauai Guidebook" and The Ultimate Maui Guidebook by Doughty and Friedman before you go. They'll tell you about places you would have never thought about. Feel free to email me with questions.
                            Good Luck,
                            Kim F

I drove around the property a few years back. I felt it was congested. I asked how people liked there rooms and they all were happy with it.

I thought you did not want Kona?
