  • T/S Seminar in Wilkes Barre, PA

    Hello Everyone,
I am doing 3 t/s seminars at Boscov's in Wilkes Barre, PA on the following dates and times:
    Sunday, 1/28 1-3, Wednesday, 2/7 6:30-8:30 and Sunday, 2/11 2-4

It is part of Boscov's Campus of Courses and is free to attend. The class size is limited to 12 and you would have to call Boscov's at 570-823-4141. Here is the course information:

    Timeshare for Beginners
Have you ever wondered what exactly timesharing is? How exactly does it work? Is it as great as those timesharing sales people make it seem? Does it make financial sense? Join us as we share information about our favorite hobby and learn more about timesharing basics, how to determine if it is a good and affordable vacation style for you and your family, and if so, how to determine the costs involved.

As a disclaimer, we are doing this just for the fun of it, although we occasionally flip timeshares and we do rent out our FF points as reservation frequently.

I also won't claim to be an absolute expert at every aspect of timesharing, but we have taken what we have learned and have done well with it for ourselves and don't mind sharing that knowledge.

    Hope to see you there.

Are there seminars to stop people from buying timeshares? I see a greater need there so people do not get taken by salesmen who do not tell the truth. There are a lot of hurting owners that should have never been talked out of their money.

          Wish it were closer

At least you are in the right state. I really like to get together in person and talk and listen to others experiences. I have learned so much on these forums for sure but if you ever get closer to Lancaster or Reading I am in.

            Interesting concept.

I hadn't really considered a seminar or classes. I wonder how this would go over as an adult ed class. I run into a lot of people who have timeshares but have not a clue on how to use them.

I am gearing the seminar to 2 groups of people. The first group being those who have purchased and have no clue how to use what they bought and two those who are curious and want to know more about timesharing. I am not going to knock purchasing from the developer because I do feel that there are times (although rare) where it does make sense to do so. But I am going to tell them that if they do want to buy from the developer to make sure they know what they are getting. I will also be showing the price comparisons between buying resale and buying from the developer and let them be the judge on where exactly they would rather buy from. I will also be sharing all of my favorite online timeshare websites from this one (with very nice business cards) to sites where they could find possibly find good timeshare deals from ebay to myresortnetwork.

This is a complete first for me. I do teach college accounting classes. I also educate all of my tax customers on timeshares when they come each year for their tax appointments. Some of them look at me like I am crazy, but I tell them don't ever let me hear you come in one year and tell me you bought a blue week studio from one of those presentations where you went just for the free gift.

Be sure to expose all aspects of owning. Talk about all the pitfalls and how buyers are conned out of their money, sometimes their life savings. Talk about the thousands out there that wish they had never gone on that " 90 minute tour." Talk about the ever increasing fees and all the extra fees that seem to come out of no where. Talk about owners having no input in how a resort is run. Talk about all the other clubs you have to join. Talk about the difficult task if getting rid of the things. Talk about the burden that one could place on their kids if they include timeshares in their will. Talk about how 1/3 of owners wish they had never heard the word " timeshares. " Talk about all the stuff on the net that includes lawsuits and people being convicted and have gone to prison that were involved in timeshares because they lied and stole from people.Talk about all the old people who just have no use for a t/s and are just hanging on and paying year after year for nothing. Talk about how the resort has no interest in helping an owner rid themselves of ownership. Talk about why you can buy them for a $ on ebay. Talk about the truth. Talk about all of it !!!

Somehow, I don't Lisa is going to do this. Maybe you should exert your own effort in putting on seminars that do this instead of trying to get someone else to do your bidding.

I am not asking her to do anything for me. Just asking to be honest with herself and her gathering. Timesharing is not for everyone! I feel it is ok if you are rich, retired and therefore can go at the clubs time and have lots of extra money to cover increasing fees and not effect the bottom line of every day living. Tell both sides, be honest.

I feel your pain... I will guess that you went to a resort and got lured in by the offer of a free $100 bill for 60-minutes of your time. They showed you the charts and, the pretty photos, the book of all the places you can go...

Then, they talked about how economical it is... how you will save money with a timeshare and you will be staying a great resorts in the process. Then they showed you the financing...

Then, they pulled the, here is my manager... and they chopped a few grand off the prise for "TODAY ONLY" and you need to decide now...

Well, you did it and you bought on the spot. You didn't do your homework before you purchased and you didn't do your homework immediately after. Had you purchased resale, you would have discovered that your $20,000 timeshare "INVESTMENT OF A LIFETIME" sells on the resale market for about $5,000. Then, you realize that exchanges are a game and if you don't know how to play the game that you will never get the most out of your investment.

So, there you sit... High monthly payments, maintenance fees every year, and you become really bitter as you know you made a mistake as you were taken by the HYPE of the timeshare salesmen...

The purpose of this website is to educate so that more people do not go through this... Just remember that some people can afford and wish to pay the full resort price for some places and just because you have an extremely low opinion of your own decision to purchase certainly does not mean that all timeshare owners feel the same way.

So, all sides of the story need to be told and your opinions are welcomed to share your side but your gripe is really with the timeshare salesmen and that 90-minute high pressure sale pitch...

Timesharing itself is not what you describe at all if you do it the smart way!

I have said here that timeshare is not for everyone. That leaves the door open for people who do like it and if you are one of those, enjoy and have at it !
However, it is not for everyone as the timeshare salesmen and women would have everyone believe ! It is not the salvation to all vacations.
My low opinion is of the lowlife salesman that lied to me, not with anything I may have decided.
Again, lay it out there with all the facts. Not just one sided, for nor against!
You know, the pros and cons.................Be informed.

Your voice is not the only one talking. Most of the members here are the experts. When a question is posted here we are the ones who will give them an honest upfront no BS answer.
After reading through your posts I can see you have been burned. Not everyone here has and we are trying to keep the newbies from getting burned. Time sharing has the good the bad and the ugly. You have to try to look at all of it, not just the bad and ugly. It works for some people and not others. I hope that in the future you will open your eyes to see that it is not all bad.
