I noticed they come and go, but it looks like they are visible in the beginning, but are masked by auction end; I will keep an eye on it...

no, it is real. However, not all auctions will be masked. A lot of real estate and jewery does. Have no idea how eBay apply which one get mask which one not.

Even when mask, it will show a summry of the bidder.

I got something from Ebay in the past couple of weeks which said that they would be doing this "masking". They said it it one of the steps they are taking to protect bidders from scam artists doing the "second chance" cons.

I received similar notification from Ebay. The vendor will still be able to see all bidder names and everybody still has access to the bidders feedback.
