  • Help on Settlements & RCI Bonus weeks

    Hi

My wife and I are newbies to the timeshare concept and currently working towards our first acquisition.

By way of background we live in Western Austrlia and have recently returned from a holiday in Bali where we got roped into one of those high pressure sales pitches so have a pretty good understanding of what its all about from their perspective.

Am looking at acquiring something in Bali on a resale basis but would appreciate some advice on a couple of points if anyone can help.

    Firstly, the settlement process.

Obviously we want to ensure the acquisition is all legal and we get what we pay for but there doesn't appear to be very much info on the net about settlement services in Australia. Plenty in the US but that's a long way from home and I'm not too sure about how relevant or legal they are in relation to a transaction involving at least one party from down under.

Does anyone have any experience in this area or knowledge of a reliable settlement service (preferably in Australia) I could use?

    Secondly, RCI Bonus Weeks.

One of the big attractions to us with the timeshare concept is the claimed access to what we understand as RCI Bonus Weeks. As it was explained to us, once we are members of RCI we can access bonus weeks (for both ourselves and family and friends) which enable us to book accomodation in affiliated resorts and hotels (of like standard to our timeshare resort) across the world for between $169 & $499AUD/week anytime we like including peak periods, subject of course to availability.

Has anyone had any experience with the use of these "bonus weeks"? Would appreciate advice as to whether it actually works as claimed and the bonus weeks are usually available at the prices indicated at the sales pitch.

Thanks for your time and any advice.

Resale websites would be able to give you some guidance as to who you can use and whether you need to use a lawyer or not.
These are some sites I know of:
    http://www.austimeshare.com/Weeks.html
    http://www.timeshare-resales-austral...u/listings.php
    http://www.timesharedownunder.com/welcomeindex.html
    http://www.timeshares.com.au/

You could email them and ask for a recommendation. I've also seen timeshares in Bali on sale but don't recall which one of those sites had them. Good luck.

As for RCI bonus weeks, they are no longer available for AU$169. They are usually between the $250 & $450 mark for timeshares and more for rental properties. With RCI you would have to pay a yearly membership fee.
There are other exchange companies which do not charge membership fees that will also give you access to bonus weeks. Their bonus weeks are also generally cheaper than RCI's. These are:
    Dial an Exchange
    Interchange
    HC Direct
