Colleges and some lower schools have a break the week(s) of Mar 10 and/or Mar 17. Some schools have Easter week off, some have Passover off, both when they coincide like this year.
This year, our schools are closed from 3/31 through 4/9, back to school 4/10. Next year, I am betting on a Passover break the w/o 4/20, but many will have the week of 3/20-ish for Easter since it's on 3/23...
So I guess the answer is that Spring Break is a moving target...
In CA many public and private K-12 schools have spring break the week before or the week after Easter. This year Easter is April 8. Next year it is March 23, 2008.
Universities generally would run from the last week in March through Mid April and and if they happen to have spring break near Easter it is mostly coincidence.
I think in 2007 I would concider week 11, 12, 13, 14 to be sping break but in 2008 I think maybe 11, 12. But more is better so keep posting.
The most common times for spring break are from the middle of March thru the middle of April, although some schools will schedule them during the first half of March or the second half of April.
In this part of Michigan most schools have in the past scheduled spring break so that it falls on week 13 or week 14 of every year. Some districts use week 13, other districts use week 14. There may be an effect of the recent law that schools in Michigan cannot start until after Labor Day on the scheduling of spring break, but that law is so new that any effect is not apparent yet.
Up here in the Northeast, school vacation is the week after next (w/o Feb 18th).
For most of New England, that's winter vacation. Spring vacation for CT, MA, ME and RI is the third week of April.
For 2007, school districts in part of or all of 29 different states have vacation for most or all of the week before or the week after Easter (April 6). 15 states take one of the last two weeks in March off. 5 states take off the second full week in March. 7 states take the third week of April off. 2 states take vacation in other weeks in March and April.
The total adds to more than 50, because a number of states allow school districts to choose their own vacation dates. Thus, I have included more than one week for some states.
For 2008, expect significant increased vacation pressures on availability during the last two weeks of March. With Easter falling on March 23, many school vacation dates that are in early April this year will move to late March in 2008.
In another few months, I’ll prepare a summary of representative spring vacation dates for 2008, something I have done each of the past five years. It’s a bit early, because many states and school districts have not set their 2008 school calendars yet.

Dave I have always LOVED and used your state by state Spring Calendar breakdowns.
It will be interesting to see how our NY public schools will lean for 2008. I have bet our vacation on the week ending March 23 <figuring that the very least we will get is Holy Thursday and Good Friday as well as Easter Monday> while others are going for April 20 to 27 for Passover. When this seperation of a month last occured in 2005 we had 3 days off for each.
If I ever get enough time to set this up and more data from missing states; I will be compiling the summer vacation start/end dates.
Self-centric me spent years looking from end of June to end of August on exchange opportunities until I found out that many of our states let out in end of May and early June...
I'll show you mine if you show me yours!
