  • Timeshares and Digital TV Service

The U.S. is scheduled to shift to digital-only TV broadcasts on

    February 18, 2009.

All timeshares will either have to replace
old Analog TVs or Purchase DTA Converter Boxes.

Some TS units have anywhere from 1-4 TV sets.
How will this effect your maintenance fees?
Will owners be charged a special assessment?

Something to think about and discuss with your management company.

It's not a big problem actually

Some resorts (I know of two for sure) are already planning on changing TV's when the digital change occurs. But it may not be anywhere near as soon as you think. The only service impacted by the change to digital is over the air - not satellite or cable unless they choose to use it. The resorts don't have to know what signal is at the head end as long as what appears at the TV input is usable. Right now most (if not all) resorts are wired for standard, analog cable or satellite feeds so nothing will change in 2009. if they are actually using a local over the air receiver then that one item will have to be changed to digital and married to a converter to feed the many tv's throughout the resort. It is doubtful many resorts are using standard, over the air broadcasts at individual TV's although i have stayed at at least two in the past that did so. They will have to buy converters or new TV's for each or switch to a CATV system within the resort.

I think that the change will be phased in, unless it is absolutely necessary to convert everything at once.
