Oh well. missing 3 days of school <and getting to spend my birthday> at a 2BDRM Morritts Grand is well worth it in my book!

Maybe I can go to SCal for Passover now. HMMMM.

This is assuming my school calender will match yours Avery.
OFF March 19 thru the 24
    OFF April 21 thru 25

    Well Yippee!
Our school calendar for 2007-2008 was on the website this morning!

DS will only miss 2 days of school the week we go to Morritts.

AND we are off the Passover week! So I can go and see Dear Old in April! I just have to hope that PSE will let me trade into Laguna Beach for that week into an even numbered unit, I won't know THAT until June.

That is great news, Lawren, good for you!! A trip to CA in April should be great, too.. though there was a Playa Grande week online the other day for 4/19/08.....

The only way it could have been better is if G and I were at the Grand the same week.

Water under the bridge...I'm not trading in a 2BDRM for a 1BDRM now.

SO...do we place our wagers on the week AFTER Easter for 2009?

Apr 9 First day of Passover (Jewish)
          Apr 10 Good Friday (Christian)
          Apr 12 Easter Sunday (Christian)
          Apr 13 Easter Monday (Christian)
Apr 16 Last day of Passover (Jewish)

ETA: Our Xmas week is really screwed up for 2007. Off Dec 24 thru Jan 1st...Wednesday thru Thursday. for those who travel then. Bet the school will be EMPTY Jan 2, 2008.

I'd have to bet the week after Easter.

Our calendar just came out. I'm disappointed and surprised and sure glad I didn't gamble on when the break would be.
I guess (and I say this as a Jewish person) the population of the town has changed. We've ALWAYS had the Passover break rather than the Easter one, (although we too had that 3 days off for each a couple of years ago which was not satisfying to anyone).
Last year was great - they went back to school on MAY 1 - and I took them to Tennessee and the Smokies, the most crowded of all N.Pks, with no crowds whatsoever, because who else with kids was off the last week of April? There were no other kids ,just us and older retired couples (who were so much happier as they did not have surly teens in tow)
So for 2008 we're getting Good Friday 3/21 through the entire next week off, coming back Monday 3/31. Passover is only one day, the Monday , 4/21.
I'd so much rather have that week off; you have a much better chance at nice weather, even for day trips.

We deal with two separate spring breaks. Although I keep thinking that our older dd, who is now in college, isn't going to want to travel with us much longer.

Next year's spring break for younger dd (March 8 - 24) will be spent in part doing a college tour. She's telling me she wants to look at the Claremont College (southeast of Los Angeles). And since we'll just happen to in that area she's figuring we should visit Disneyland.

Interesting... Only the first two and last two nights of Passover are considered "holy," (I'm no religious expert, forgive me if I'm mistaken) so it sounds like your district is just closing on the one weekday covered; the other ones fall on the weekend prior and after (Sunday the 20th and the following weekend)... too bad, that is a great week to get away...

Well my district is not even closed at all for Passover this year...even the first day. We are in a quandry with my son, who is a freshman in high school and really stresses about missing even one day of school. We normally go to Philly for the first seder, which would be on a Monday night, necessitating taking the kids out of school for Tuesday at the very least.

What do you guys have this year for breaks?

Our schools are off the 2nd of April thru the 9th?

Sharon when are your schools out?

We have off the week of April 15th. (We also have Good Friday off.) My son just informed me that he does not think he can miss school, which leaves me having to stay home with him while my husband takes the girls to Philly for the seder. (It's his side of the family.) We don't have any family nearby so I'm not sure what we will do yet. He won't miss it, but I will....

Oh Sharon, that's too bad. I would think that he would get an excused absence, for the holiday. Isn't there anyway that he can make up the missed work?

Sometimes excused absence and being able to take time off are different. Sharon, I've forgotten how old your son is. As they start moving up in school years it does get harder and harder to miss days of school, even if those days might be "excused".

I know that that's true. It just seems like such a shame that Sharon has to miss her holiday.
