      Luanne is right. It's not so much a matter of being excused, it's the difficulty of missing the classes/lectures. My son is a freshman in high school, and he is taking three honors courses (honors Bio, honors Algebra 2 and honors English). Even missing one Algebra 2 lesson can wreak havoc!

      Sigh....

          Could he stay home alone one night and one day? Or at a friend's house that night and go to school with him the next day?

            So do a lot of people get one week in February and one week in March and one week in April? Kids and DH (who teaches in another district) get Presidents' Week in February and then a week at the end of April, April 21-28 this year. Nothing in March usually.
