  • Here are school spring vacation dates for 2008

Complementing another thread on school vacations, here is an updated version – for 2008 - of a school spring vacation schedule that I have prepared at about this time of year each of the past six years. The schedule is useful in determining what weeks will likely be very busy at various resorts but should not be relied on for your own school district plans, since schedules often vary among school districts within a state.

Where multiple weeks are listed and separated by or, each such week is vacation in at least one school district. March 21 (listed frequently below) is Good Friday, the Friday before Easter. 3/24-28 will be a very busy vacation week!

The schedule lists 2008 spring vacation periods for every state and DC, except for West Virginia, for which I could not yet locate 2007-2008 approved calendars.

Please note that the dates are representative only, are for traditional tracks, not year-round school calendars, and do not include colleges or private schools. Many states have varying vacation dates in different school districts. Only sample dates for each state are reflected here.

I do a state-by-state Google search, trying to get calendars for at least a couple of school districts in each state.

There isn't much out yet for 2009 vacation dates. In all my searching, I probably saw 2008-09 school calendars for not more than five or six districts out of perhaps 200 district sites that I looked at. Most 2007-08 calendars have just been approved within the past six weeks.

          re Washington State.

Spring varies with location. Most of the state geographically will have the week indicated by Dave. Most of the Seattle/Tacoma area (meaning most of the state by population) will be a week or two later than Dave's indication. Central and north Puget Sound typically are off the entire Presidents Week, then have a second break mid-April. The rest of the state does not take off Presidents Week, and has the earlier spring break.

“This is a blouse and skirt. I don't know what you're talking about.”

          “You shouldn't wear that body.”

              Steve -

As stated in my post, I don't try to list every district's dates. The purpose of the listing is to give people some planning help for when resorts will be busy, the best weeks to reserve for rental purposes, etc.

Still, I like the data to be reasonably representative and I specifically looked at Seattle schools to see if a 2007-2008 calendar has been approved. I couldn't find one. Can you assist?

(I am modifying the list a bit for some additional info I have found for all except West Virginia.)

                      GA summer

Thanks Lauren for the summer info.

Just want to say that all counties around metro Atlanta (Fulton, Dekalb, Gwinett, Cobb) start summer Memorial weekend or earlier, then reopen 2nd week of Aug. That certainly impacts Florida vacation crowd.

                        Thanks. That is very helpful.

I usually start from state.xx.us to get to each state's government site. So for WV it is WV.Gov. They have the menu "Learning in WV" that has calendar. But it is only 2006 - 2007. Don't know when they will update that.
