Since it appears that the timeshare industry has taken steps to take action against Crimeshare, is it too far-fetched to think that the industry would take action against those who criticize them without proof of their claims Over Here and Over Yonder?

Email sent out from OTE today:

MOVES MADE TO SHUT DOWN THE CRIMESHARE WEB SITE
A group of industry companies and individuals, including the Organisation for Timeshare in Europe (OTE), has retained the services of a law firm to take action aimed at closing down the Crimeshare web site.

The action is prompted by the slew of “scurrilous, frivolous and libellous statements” by Crimeshare that regularly denigrate the integrity of legitimate industry companies and individuals. Moreover, the publishers of the site try to hide behind anonymous P.O. boxes and ‘smokescreens’.

OTE recognises that action of this kind is often a costly exercise but member companies are resolute and many have already contributed to the fighting fund for legal action.

If you or your company would like to make a contribution, then contact Peter van der Mark at OTE.

If TUG, TS4Ms or Timesharetalk permitted this kind of posting I suspect actions would be taken against them. Crimeshare seemed for the most part to be completely unmoderated and uncontrolled. What could have been a useful site had become a board for anybody and everybody with any perceived grievance with the timeshare industry. There have been so many wild claims posted on Crimeshare over the years that I'm surprised it has taken this long for action to be taken.

Crimeshare is a mixture of good and bad info. It is amazing how much of it is validated however. There has long been quite a bit of info posted on certain shady t/s outfits in South Africa, and then, a major South AFrican newspaper, the Johannesburg Star publishes an articles that says much of what people have been saying for years on Crimeshare.

It is interesting that OTE itself is one of those organizations that has a board on Crimeshare. I imagine that they have never been happy about that.

It is also interesting that the only exchange companies with boards on Crimeshare are RCI and Timelinx (and the latter is only nominally still an exchange company). I guess they must not get complaints against other exchange companies.
