  • Selling without escrow???

Someone contacted me to purchase one of my units. They do not want to use an escrow company and want to do the deed transfer themselves. I have only done this once when I bought a timeshare from a tugger who came with good recommendations from another tugger I trusted.

If you were to sell a timeshare without escrow, how would you go about ensuring that you got paid?? My thought was that if the person was willing to pay upfront and then deal with getting the deed transferred, I couldn't not get my money. I can't think of any other way to make sure I would get paid.

Has anyone ever heard of not going through escrow with someone they didn't know?

I've done it, but it requires some trust. First get a signed contract, then get payment before transferring the deed or membership. The contract should cover both parties.

I've also done it. Individual contacted me. We had several phone conversations. He sent me a certifed check and a deed to sign. He did the transfer himself.

Since I had his money, the trust was on his part that I would sign and return deed. However, he initiated the contact.

Thanks for the replies. I'll just make sure I get paid before signing anything over!

          I used paypal

Hi, I recently sold using paypal for payment. My buyer was uncomfortable sending a stranger the money directly... I suggested that he pay with a credit card using paypal. That way he felt he had some backup to insure he got what he thought he was getting. In addition the credit card payment through paypal has less risk for the seller than a check.
There is a fee but not as much as using escrow and well worth the peace of mind. The transaction went off without any problems and the buyer was quite happy with the purchase.
