Well, i did it... I casually called him at home and asked him what day he bought it... I told him I had a bet with someone... He asked me if I was drunk...LOL

Well, low and behold... He bought it on April's fool day...too late to rescind.

Well, maybe I'll be able to offer some help on how to use it.

Damn shame... His family could have used that money for other things.

      Least I tried!

Bill thanks for getting up the nerve to call him even though it was too late.

Unfortunately the April Fools joke is on him. It would have been better if he got sucked into Marriott or HGVC or Disney.

OH Well. Now we begin making some lemonade from Westgate lemons.

OTOH if the kids are young he may be perfectly happy just going there each year.

This very thing happened to me, with a couple excitedly telling me about their purchase of a week during hurricane season at Vacation Village at Parkway in Orlando. They were eager to tell me and ask me what I thought. First I told them that the reviews on the resort were very good, and asked more questions...from what they were telling me, I figured out that what they had purchased, unbeknownst to them, was an EOY week. They assured me that this was not the case, and that they would call their salesperson to confirm that. Good idea, said I. And by the way, I'm so glad you like your resort...would you be interested in finding out how to save money? And do you think you might want to look at a different week if you don't really want to go in October? Not really, they said, they got a good deal. So, they went ahead and called someone in sales, since they really wanted an every year unit (and wanted to travel in Feb/March, not October, but I digress)...The result? They got talked into buying the alternate year too...same unit, odd years...At that point I congratulated them on their purchase...About a year later they approached me again...they had no clue how to use it, how to exchange with RCI, etc, etc...is there anything they can do??? Could they sell it back to the company? Could they sell it to someone else for many thousands of dollars? We all know the answer...I just gave them support and links to this and the other site....

            Darn shame all around...

A quick visit here & anyone would have run screaming from the Westgate Sales office!!!

For what it's worth...I would have kept quiet(ie. #1). You never know, some folks can handle the omnipresent sale pitch/room invasion/voice messages scenario. Not me

I worry about my kids falling for the pitches. They love timeshare!

When our kids use one of our 17 weeks, or the AC's we get for our weeks, I tell them not to go on the timeshare presentations. Our son went to Tahiti Village and took the tour. He loved the place and called me when the salesman was out of the room and told me how great it was and the deal they were offering. I told him he exchanged in with a Foxrun week and got a two bedroom! He said it was probably a fluke. I got online and read all the check-in dates in the future with two bedrooms. He left quickly after that.

Our other son went with his girlfriend and stayed at Fairfield Cypress Palms. He went on their tour and was tempted by a VIP package they were offering for the low price of $33K. He is the type of person that would be most likely to fall for the sales pitch. I asked him many times when they returned from that trip if he bought. I told him we had time to rescind, so he should not worry about it. He actually got mad at me for asking him over and over again. His common sense kicked in and he resisted. I told him not to go on the Marriott tour when he stayed at Grande Vista a few months ago. He went and did not buy. Thank goodness.

Our daughter will never sit through a presentation, unless they give her such a deal she can't refuse. She thinks we are idiots, when we go on tours. When she and her hubby were roped into attending a tour for Fairfield on Maui two years ago, she embarrassed me by being very rude to the nice salesman. He was really one of the nicest ones I met. He even told me about TUG. She told him that we would never buy and he was wasting his time and our vacation by going on and on..... We got out of there in less than 30 minutes. I didn't know whether to be proud or shocked.
