  • How low can they go? Ebay sellers are really selling cheaper than ever.

I watch Hawaii, North Carolina, Colorado, Bluegreen, Fairshare/Fairfield, Marriott, and Hiltons regularly and have seen some amazing deals. The best deals have been in Hawaii. I don't get it. Supposedly this is a hard exchange for some, but these weeks get sold for under $1K for a great resort.

I was somewhat relieved that the Kahana Beach annual one bedroom got some bids. I watched it for days and one hour before the auction ended the bid was only $404. It did sell for $3,200, but if it was going to go for $1K or less, I was just going to have to bid. I was poised, with my trigger finger ready to go.

That is one of the better Maui resorts. Definitely 5 star.

Rick would have killed me! So at least I am not dead today.

Watching the last-minute bids is great fun for me. I should not go to Vegas anytime soon.

So even though it came from a Post Card company, you were going to buy it if it was going to go for $1K or less

Sunterra Trust memberships on eBay, although a great bargain compared to retail, seem to be gaining some popularity with lots of bids.

I don't think it was a postcard company, Spence. It was a fairly new reseller. I cannot remember the name.

Anyway, I try to avoid those guys, but they lie when you ask them anyway, so what is the indicator? tsrecycler lied when I bought a week from him. I asked him directly ON THE PHONE and in an email, who owned the week, then I asked if he was part of one of the postcard companies. He said, "nothing like that."

I see no way to label the resellers as postcard company resellers or not.

      Don't forget your smilies, Spence.

Interesting - I have been watching Sheraton/Westin resales and they have been going UP since January.

I think that the hotel branded TS have been holding their value but other TS have been dropping.

I just think there is a flood of sellers and the buyer are a little frighten by the low prices. "what wrong with this place? that is being sold for so cheap?"

eBay is its own world. This year the seasonal price cycles do not seem to have kicked in on eBay. The postcard companies may be part of that problem, as well as the excessive closing costs some sellers demand.

The thing to remember, however, is that eBay is but a small fraction of the timeshare resale market, and does not reflect the rest of the market. When I look at resales on the Dare County website for OBX resorts, it is easy to pick out the eBay sales from the prices, which are way out of line with those from other resale venues.

Are the ebay prices higher or lower than other resale venues?

Someone on TUG said something about how everyone knows about ebay for buying timeshare. I told him about my beauty operator who asked me where to buy a Hawaii week. When I shared my ebay experiences, she was more than a little astounded that you can buy real estate and timeshare (they seem to be very different, don't you think?) on ebay. He said most people know and only a small percentage don't. I would bet only 10% of people, or even less, know about ebay for timeshare.

If everyone knows about ebay, then how would all these other websites stay in business. What about upfront fee companies, redweek, MRN, VTR, and the developers themselves?

And aren't we lucky that we all know about ebay?

Generally much lower as many of the sellers are not the 'true owners' but re-sellers who have obtained the units thru distress situations.

The eBay prices are lower in most cases.

I bought a resale t/s through a broker, for a good price, and soon after I saw the same t/s units go on eBay for about 20 percent less than I had paid. Now it's down to about 40 percent less than I paid.

But it looks like they make it up on the closing costs + advance collection of maintenance fees (months before due).

My problem is when that happens I buy all of them and do that thing called Dollar Cost Averaging.

We aren't allowing Wackster to buy any more on ebay - it was too stressful
