Bought a 2BR Mayan Palace at the Buy It Now Price of $2600. Extra fees brought the price to $3777. First Ebay purchase. Time will tell if we made the right decision.
I've been outbid every time too (maybe by some of you? Who knows?) But then I made two purchases through TUG and Bidshares and those have turned out really well for me so far without the last minute adrenaline rush.
I get the impression that Nov/Dec might be a good time to buy from reading a bit on the boards. Any one else have better success in a certain time of year?
Near the end of the year you will see many of the big TS ebay sellers offer to reduce or pay the closing costs. Normally, MF are no longer due for the current year. You can pick up some TS's for a much better price.
Do you use a ebay snipe program when you bid? If not, I use bidnapper. Unfortunately, when using the bidnapper, if I have the highest bid, I win.
I think I can be patient and wait until later in the year for my next purchase. It would be nice to reduce those closing costs and I'll bet there are people who want to get rid of their timeshare in order to avoid paying next year's MF.
I'm definitely going to try an ebay snipe program the next time I try to bid. I'll take a look at bidnapper.
In anticipation of my retirement in 2007, I went out of control with 5 eBay purchases at the end of 2006. I bought 3 2br Summer Bay Las Vegas weeks in October for $520., $710. and $830. which have increased in value (Gold Crown status) with the future move to the Desert Club property across the street (thank you HOA and Harrahs!) Then in November, I added to the Hawaii weeks we own with another 1br at Pono Kai for $1150. and a 2br Kona Coast II for $4150. The only closing problem occurred with PK. We received a finalized deed for the wrong unit from Resort Closings and chose to return all the paperwork and start over. It was the difference b/t an oceanfront unit in Building B and one in Building H (even though the units are floating and you don't necessarily reserve the unit you own). We now have 11 annual weeks and a Maui Schooner EOY-even. Life is good!
Just purchansed one at Eagle Crest in Oregon (Wanted one we could drive to in a couple of hours.) We will see how it closes and what happens when I verify the deed with the county.
I paid $700, $1.00, and $511 for my last three Timeshare weeks. I don't think I would be buying timeshare weeks at this time without the good deals on Ebay.
The $700 is in Wisconsin near Door County.
The Dollar timeshare week is a 1 bedroom in Northern Wisconsin for the Labor day week.
The $511 is a 2 bedroom on Maui.

Walt, would you share with us what timeshare you bought in Hawaii for $511 for a 2 br? That's less than what maintenance fees are going for yearly, most likely. Unbelievable when you find out what new ones are selling for at most resorts over there today. I am sure that it is a good trader too.
This poor person took a beating unless he bought it many years ago and had years of enjoyment out of it. Sad for the seller but great for you.

We go to Hawaii on the Odd Years. And this is for a 2 Bedroom on the Odd Years. Our other Odd Year Resort is the Kaanapali Beach Club.
We bought 3 units in the past year through eBay. We bought one in New Symrna, FL on the beach for $2.25 + closing (yup, $2.25, every year, 2BR, 2BA). Nice place, we stayed there last Sept and will go back this year. The other units are in So Calif, also on the beach (one for $2,000-studio, other for $3,000-1BR, closing costs paid by seller). It worked for us...

That is a nice resort from what I have read. Staying two weeks on a row is the only way to go when you have to fly to the islands and certainly if you come from so far away. Longer is better yet. You made a great purchase, Walt. It certainly beats buying from a developer at the very high prices they charge today.
I bought one a couple years ago. It's an EOY La Vista (La Vista Resort, Sint-Maarten) in St. Maarten, stand alone cottage.
I didn't set out to buy another T/S - it just happened (yeh, sure - tell that to the judge). I was looking to rent a week and found this one at auction for cheap - got it for $900 + internal transfer (it's a small, family owned place) for ~$200. The buyer was great, just wasn't going there anymore.
