  • ResortQuest acquired by II

Don't know if this was posted by someone else here, but I just found this article that was dated April 19, 2007.
Life is short, live it with this awareness.

Hopefully, this does not indicate a further move by II into rental of exchange deposits.

I did see it somewhere when it was announced, but can't remember where. Looks like the seller made a nice profit.

Holy Cow. ResortQuest Hawaii is pretty much a hotel chain. ResortQuest is a hospitality and vacation property management company.

Interval International is absolutely expanding its business model beyond timeshare interval exchange. Not sure what they are thinking, but it should be interesting to watch.

          Wishful thinking

Maybe II will be able to come up with a few more reasonably priced getaway weeks! That's probably just wishful thinking on my part though.

It's not getting better or easier

The winds of change aren't going to cease. Trying to say a different exchange company will be able to keep the old ways alive when the market has clearly evolved is a poor plan of action. II has already indirectly become a points system by embracing the group of "super members" from affiliated, corporate memberships that are almost all points based. The individual member stands behind those groups in the pecking order. Now they appear to be heading into the travel conglomerate world aka RCI. It won't be long before we hear about the great non-timeshare values they have to offer to members. In fact I think they do it already. When the two biggest go off in a new direction the littler guys become boutiques or just afterthoughts to the mass market. I don't think it's a positive that what was once almost a one stop shopping for trades to any resort is now being fractured more and more into small groups even within a given resort. Weeks, points, II, RCI, SFX, II, VI, Club Sunterra, Hyatt, Marriott, Wyndham, Shell and on and on. Each with just a fraction of what two large companies used to hold access to. More than ever it pays to buy the resort or the group of resorts you want to use and avoid the ever more messy and less successful world of exchanging.

We have been using hotels that are in ResortQuest all along. We may get more choice in hotel reservations now but I don't know what it will do for the timeshare owners that are becoming part of this now.

Yes, this industry is changing constantly, if we like it or not. My motto has always been buy where you want to stay and forget exchanging.
