  • Where to go in Nov?

I'm sending my admin assistant, who is turning the big 50, somewhere for her birthday. What's a good place to go in early Nov? She's mentioned Mexico and the Mayan area. She's never been there. She's also never been to Hawaii. I should also add that she's not sit around all day type. They would like to see things.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

I hate to argue with a guy with a shovel, but we have had two lousy November weeks out of three in Cancun, all Thanksgiving...

I would definitely choose Hawaii over Cancun, especially for an active person who would enjoy a lot of the activities/adventures/sightseeing/etc.

        ARUBA!

Okay, I am prejudice as I love Aruba but you are pretty much guaranteed good weather and for a first time visitor there is much to do - sail boat trips, snorkeling, jeep tours, ostrich farm, butterfly farm, golf, fishing, water sports, wind sailing, kite boarding, wild donkeys, caves to visit and did I say snorkeling?
Gourmet restaurants, feet in the sand restaurant, casinos, shows, shopping.....

Geez, can I come work for you? Very nice.

My vote would be Hawaii, particularly the Big Island, which is my favourite. There is lots and lots to do there, that's for sure. If she's not travelled much, she might find a US state not quite as challenging. And you may want to check with her about Mexico, with where you're from, I'm sure the incident about that young man has been front and centre in the news and she may feel a bit uneasy about that, although if she's mentioned it, probably fine.

          JMHO.

Which young man? There have been quite a few "episodes," not all of them publicized. An associate of my brother's was kidnapped in Acapulco and ransomed back to his family last year, a not-so-uncommon occurrence there; a hotel exec got kidnapped there just the other day...

The incident that Bev is talking about is where a young father from GP, AB allegedly fell off his balcony and suffered fatal head injuries. The person's family say he was beaten by security guards and that there has been a coverup.

We're all aware of it and I think her family would prefer that she not go to Mexico. I personally wouldn't go to Cancun as i don't find there much to do there. I know a lot of people like the Royals but find there isn't much to do in the hotel zone area. She talked about the Mayan area and I'd recommend that over Cancun due to its approximinity to things to see and do (Xcaret, PDC, Cozumel, Tulum, etc).

I think Aruba is out as we're in Western Canada and that may be too far to fly for just one week. I'm thinking flights would be at least 9 hours?

Hawaii would be a consideration because of the time zone and approximinty. What's Hawaii like that time of year?

              Any other thoughts?

Puerto Vallarta is safe as far as I know and the weather very good too as we were there in November. Hawaii weather should be great in November as it was even nice last December when we were there a month later.

You can't beat Hawaii as there is lots to see and do but Puerto Vallarta also has nice tours in the area that you can take and it has the most beautiful sunsets. We like both.

There was an interesting post OY tonight about the three top things to do in Hawaii. Here is the link.

What a nice birthday present to your admin assistant.

She's a very lucky person - and I hope she knows it!! You're so sweet to do this!

When we were in Hawaii, it was in November and the weather was just great. When we went to St. Augustine FL, it was also November, and the weather was great there too. There's lots to do in that Beautiful City. Just a few more suggestions to add to your dilemma ... Decisions...decisions.......

A little late in posting. I would think that Sedona would be real nice in November. Also, if she wants (or needs ) to create a memory that needs to stay in Vegas, Las Vegas.

We have visited SoCal in Nov the last 2 years and stayed at Marriotts Newport Coast.

Great area, great resort, lots to do, easy to get to, cheap to fly to. Not to hard to trade into in Nov (other than thansgiving week).

                      Good Luck

Availability of better resorts in both Hawaii and SW Florida is decent in November. If they like to golf, fees are lower in November in SW FL than in January-May.

                          Mexico is a good choice

Mexico feels like a world away. Much more like a vacation destination than Palm Springs or Arizona. However she will need a passport to re-enter the United States. That takes planning. We love Cabo San Lucas. We stay at Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach. Every room has an ocean view. It trades with RCI.

                            Mexico - don't go!

Frankly I think that Canadians should be boycotting Mexican resorts until something changes in the way they do their murder investigations when Canadian tourists get killed.

This last man from Grande Prairie was reported by Mexican authorities to have cocaine in his body when he was in the Mexican hospital (after his "accidental fall"); the Canadian hospital that arranged for the organ transplants found no trace of drugs whatsoever.

In the case where the couple that was murdered just before their daughter's wedding, Mexican authorities tried to put the blame on two totally innocent women who were merely staying at the same resort, down the hall.

In both cases a story was concocted immediately to protect the reputation of Mexican resorts before (and instead of) any investigation taking place.

                            Disgusting!

It looks like Mexico is out. It's down to Hawaii and Florida. Can someone give me an idea of which Florida resorts/areas to look for during the 2nd week of Nov that would be good places?

I have a good idea of the Hawaii resorts.
