Does anyone know if the rental prices posted on redweek are the prices that the units actually rent for? I'm trying to figure out the economics and feasability of my next planned vacation.

Rental fees-lower than you may think
Rents are negotiable. Most sellers do the negotiating as their listings on redweek sit for weeks, they drop it a hundred here and a hundred there. You can also look at ebay to guage rental prices. Ebay rentals are generally lower because they are last minute offerrings. Many are 30 days or less and if you read the descriptions they involve a change of plans. The listings on ebay that do not rent are the uppermost of the rent range and the ebay prices they rent for are the lower range. Redweek prices are somewhere in between. II getaways also establish a rental range. Holiday weeks command a premium.
Also $700 per week is a benchmark for many rentals such as TUG last minute rentals. For an owner to sell their week for less than 700 on ebay involves a subsidy on the owner's part, most likely. You have to factor in the dues and the ebay fees and the pay pal fees and such. We have rented our ski weeks in the 800-900 range on redweek and the renters were happy to get such a bargain. However when we had them up higher we had no bites. Any owner knows that pricing is key because when you get to one or two weeks away they face the prospect of zero rental dollars. The absolute last minute that you can deposit your week with II is two weeks out and then you get a week that can only trade 30 days out. (flex exchange).
A good source of rentals if you are renting is ebay. I've seen some incredible rental bargains, but always at the last minute. One year we had a vacation planned in Cabo and had our air fares and one bedroom timeshare reserved. About 3 weeks ahead we saw a 2 bedroom unit advertised at the exact resort that went unsold on ebay. We made a lower offer and the seller was thrilled to get something because they had just taken a new job and had to cancel all vacations. We then auctioned off our smaller one bed on ebay and that couple was also thrilled to get such a bargain. It was a win-win-win and we enjoyed a two bedroom upgrade for free.

Speaking for RCI Weeks:
I would change that to two years out or who can travel at the last minute.
Those who plan a year out would be bunched up with the majority, with the better resorts/weeks already taken.
If you want to see how many are really for rent, trying googling something like Orlando Timeshares for rent, or Orange Lake Country Club for rent, some key words that say what you are looking for.

I think some of the free things like Craigs List out preform local papers.
But again that is just MHO.

I'd say if you see an ad you like, it's worth making an offer.

Timeshares Only - Timeshare Resales and Rentals - Sell timeshare, Buy timeshare or Rent timeshare property has some of the lowest rental prices online. They aren't always really available, but I have spoken with a few reps there (you have to phone in to check on actual availability) and there have been some very decent rental rates available.

I rent exclusively on Redweek and don't negotiate price (just like Marriott ) but do run specials, offer frequent renter discounts, and accept credit cards through our merchant account or Paypal. So, the prices one would see on that site with the hash and "rented" over them (ours anyway) are what the intervals actually rented for. I can't speak for other sellers in that regard though. I rarely get lowball offers, to which I happily direct the people to some of the other landlords in their price category
Redweek usually has between 40 and 80 intervals (at our resort) listed at a time, so pricing is fairly easy to accomplish. I keep mine midling and stand out with my specials and terms...
