  • Forums on Redweek are full of shills and scams!

I use Redweek for renting our weeks and have been reading/watching the new forums there. Many upfront fee and postcard companies are defending their companies there. It seems that no amount of criticism will stop these guys from continually defending their companies.

Of course, the postcard companies are not posting as themselves, but they post as satisfied customers.

Upfront fee companies never come here or OY to defend themselves. Why not?

No offense meant but this surprises you how?

These guys make a living convincing gulable people to pay them to take their timeshare's off their hands. The very same people who paid thousands of dollars for a timeshare and then never took the time to learn how to use it or had enough brains to rescind the deal after they did have time to think about it or research it. They are NOT going to back off the idea that they are doing these people a great service and they'll never let you win an arguement with them.

The only thing you can do is shake your head, buy the weeks that you want at a price you want and try to enlighten people who probably aren't going to listen to you anyway. I use to get ticked off when a person would look straight at my moving car and STILL step out in front of it as if they couldn't be hurt in the accident. Now I just mutter to myself just how WRONG Darwin was with his theory of evolution.

Why don't they come here of OY? Because people on these forums are generally educated and won't tolerate their half truths or out right lies. IOW, they give up trying to convince us just as you should give up trying to convince them.

They come here fairly regularly as well as OY.

      e.g. http://www.timeshareforums.com/forum...s-ripoffs.html

The poster was looking for nibbles on a "vacation club" that offers leftovers at inflated prices and is a type of pyramid scheme.

I prefer to ignore them but this thread is pretty long.

Usually we delete them as fast as we get them. Occasionally I think it is a good idea to leave one. Many are not as experienced and may benefit from threads like the one you reference.

As a newbie, I found the thread you mentioned very useful. I'm was not aware of the existence of these types of companies. Sometimes I think the experienced, long-time contributors to this forum underestimate the extent of their own knowledge. I see timesharing as an extremely complex subject, there are so many different systems encompassed within the term "timeshare". It is an enormous job to learn about each system and then translate it all and make an "informed" decision about purchasing.

I could be wrong about this, but I think the person initiating the thread was genuinely pleased about his research and purchase. Sure, he may have had the intention of making a few sales when he came here but maybe the debating allowed him to see where his research was flawed. He said "I will come back when I go on vacation", I don't think he had even tried to use his purchase - he was spouting only theory and not the practice.

We just had another one today. They reinforce the fact they are scum by trying to sneak in ads everywhere.

              Debate is always useful

As a newbie in the process of buying my timeshare, I too found that particular thread very informative. Luckily for me, I discovered these informative forums just in the nick of time...

My realtor says the average timeshare owner has 2.6 timeshares but after reading these boards, it seems more like 3 to 5.

Can't wait to close to figure out how to best use it (other than going there every year of course)

Most people I know outside of here and tug only own 1 timeshare. They rarely trade. And they barely use it.

Here there are no 'average' timeshare owners!

It seems to me that we get a little too excited by timeshares here. Many of us have been unable to resist buying and have bought more than we need. Then we sell and get down to a reasonable and usable number.

What is what I have done, in fact I might be able to buy another week or 10.

I am proud of myself. I do the RCI and TPI exchange opportunities here and after 12 years still only have 3 weeks. Of course keeping it that way has been very painful but dealing with school schedules we cannot take much more time than that.

I'm a pauper compared to the hardcore timeshare users.

I only own two weeks, but one is a Wynfield points week that I can s-t-r-e-t-c-h out, and I'm a ways off from retirement, so there is plenty of time to add on.

On-topic, I have seen no sign of shills/scammers in our resort's forum on Redweek. Conversely, I see signs of TUG'ers there, and together we've educated some newbies about the real world of timesharing....

Other than a few "postcards" which I've thrown in the trash, I've had no contact with any of these companies in my near 4 years of timeshare ownership. Here's to seeing that continue
