I would buy at the same 2 resorts where I own at now.

I would buy what Mike H, Jya-Ning, Brian Noble and CC_dad bought--Fairfield. I would not buy anything but Fairfield.
So I think we are going to sell everything we have and count on that system for a while. Except I cannot sell Foxrun because of the trades (we own four weeks there). Wait a minute, I cannot sell Mansfield for the RCI points because we love those points. Oh, I cannot sell our PAHIO weeks, because we may want to convert to Fairshare Plus Platinum some day.
I guess we are only going to sell five of our 17 weeks.

Are you taking that many weeks vacation? I know you rent some weeks out. How do you keep track of it all? I have a hard time dealing with our six weeks we have and we mainly use them. I wished they were all close to home so I could still take care of our cat. That is our biggest hurdle right now plus flying to our destinations too.
My motto is now, buy where you like to go and where you can drive to in a couple hours. That would be ideal or closer yet for our cat.

Emmy, such a cute kitty, too. Two of my three cats are running from the living room, through the dining room, the kitchen and into the famly room over and over again right now. The other one is a bit older and she tries to attack the Maine Coon as he runs by her. He runs as close to her as he can without hitting her. It is comical.
Rick has a lot of vacation every year and can take a week off every three weeks with just one shift trade, but we don't vacation that much. We have three grown kids, all of them vacation, and we did take 9 weeks of vacation last year. It didn't seem like all that much, when going two weeks at a time. Many of our purchases are recent, so we have never been challenged to use all of them in a single year.
Three weeks are put into RCI's PFD and that got us airfare to Hawaii last year, cheaper than the rates were at the time. We also picked up Disneyworld tickets with our points, though they were slighly higher than at the gates. That sounds stupid, I know, but I bought six of them and the prices are going to go up soon, as they have not had an increase for almost 11 months, so when Disney increases the prices, by $30, we will be in great shape, because the ones we bought will be cheaper than the increase.
We bought another Hawaii week that we will probably bank this year because the closing has not happened and renting a week seems hard in the fall. Maybe I will rent it just for MF's, but I did reimburse the seller, so I want to use it somehow. We will rent several Hawaii weeks every year, if we can. Our Maui week was the easiest to rent. The Kauai weeks are harder. There is too much inventory in RCI for Kauai, plus it is relatively inexpensive to buy. We own 4 1/2 PAHIO weeks. We need to rent the Shearwater for next year and I have not even advertised it. I suppose I should do it now, but that was one we would consider selling. I have gotten in through exchanges. Hopefully that will continue, or I will be sorry if I sell it. I can always buy again.
We need to sell some of the Colorado weeks, if not all. Trade power for the 2008 weeks was bad in RCI, but I did deposit them way too early, so that was probably my fault. I need to check the exchangeability of one of those weeks next year, just so I don't sell something and then be sorry about it. Three of our five remaining Colorado weeks are definitely going.......One is a red week with RCI but is really pink, as it is Memorial Day. Then there is the blue week I let a good friend (he is 27 years old) pay fees on and use every year, but he keeps it in our RCI account. His name is on the RTU certificate, along with ours. He is using the blue week for a three bedroom at HGVC Seaworld in Orlando for all of his friends. His total cost for the week is so cheap, only about $630 with exchange and GC fees. But he can get a three bedroom next year at Bonnet Creek for the same time of year for a little more and get one less rental car because BC has transportation to/from the parks for those who want to go more or less than the crowd.
I think Fairfield is going to work very well for us. We love Orlando and will go at least six weeks this next year because we will upgrade our 7-day passes to annual "premium" passes.
Foxrun is a conundrum. I love the trades, but I will probably get rid of at least one week, though I need to recover what we paid, which isn't much, but I don't want to give it away, as many have. Our weeks are prime summer and New Year's. We get those bonus weeks, which are very important to me. The New Year's week is definitely a goner. I got an AC for it this year, but no guarantees on that. I should sell one other summer week. Timesharing Today might be a good source for selling the Foxrun week(s). The more common websites don't attract buyers very well.
If I can get rid of five weeks, that would really help. I get so attached! That is the real problem.

Very interesting to read, Cindy. I tell you one thing and that is that our timeshares will go the moment we don't want to use them anymore. None of them are in that category now unless it is becoming too much of a hassle to book them.
That is what happened to our Marriott timeshare (MDSV-I) in Palm Desert. We really liked staying there but making reservations was absolutely awful and I am not the only one to complain!
We may have a second one like that but I will give it another chance. Making reservations at our floating timeshare in Nuevo Vallarta is still a breeze as my DH booked it this week for next February. It is a mandatory A-I resort and most people don't like it. So far, we love it as it is really a bargain too for us but not for RCI exchangers. It is a complete rip-off for them and it figures when it has to do with RCI. I really don't know who is to blame (RCI or the resort) but it is a rip-off nevertheless.

I would love to buy DVC. We've only gone once but it spoiled us being on site. But I can't justify the initial cost & additional MF. I don't know how Cindy does it with all those weeks! I'm too chicken to try renting out any of mine & besides, I want to use them myself. That's why I bought them.
I'd like to own another Kauai week so I don't have to work at getting 2 consecutive weeks every year. It would be nice to own a Marriott to get the preference, too, but so far I've been able to trade into Palm Desert pretty easily & that's where we go most often. And the Getaways are really cheap. I certainly don't need any more timeshares. I have enough trouble keeping track of the 10 weeks we have now.
I have promised myself that I will not look at e-bay anymore. The legitimate object of Government is to do for a community of people whatever they need to have done but cannot do at all or cannot do so well for themselves”- Lincoln

My wife and I met a couple that bought a fixed-week in the last week of December/first week of January in Peoria, AZ.
They plan on going there every Christmas, every year. Never plan on trading.
That sounds like a good idea to me.
(However, we own a "floating week" and always trade...we like that, too)

I already bought more of what we owned. We have 4 fixed weeks in November at Ocean Landings; 3 spring weeks at Summer Bay Las Vegas; 2 summer weeks at Kona Coast II; 2 weeks at Pono Kai; and EOY at Maui Schooner. So I guess if a steal came along, I would buy another week at the Schooner in order to take family and friends along. Otherwise, WE HAVE ENOUGH! That's only 3 vacations a year to Vegas, Hawaii and Florida. We plan to stay home during the winter to rest and reconnect with our wonderful family. We also take turns inviting family members to join us during the year.AKA "Mimi" from Toms River, NJ on TUG
