  • Does a Raintree membership transfer with the property?

I'm considering buying what's listed as a Raintree property, but it's very unclear whether the Raintree "status" transfers with the property.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

It certainly does for ownerships that were sold as Raintree Vacation Club memberships and for converted Club Regina memberships. AFAIK, converted Whiski Jack units also transfer - can't say for sure on those simply because I"ve never specifically inquired about those.

If you are looking into buying a Raintree membership, you need to get the account number and arrange to call Raintree member services to verify account information. I've never had a problem getting that info.

        Steve,

Lost the property, a Whiskijack unit, when there was a total feeding frenzy in the last seconds of bidding on eBay. Still think the guy got a good buy:

eBay: WHISKI JACK AT ASPENS WHISTLER TIMESHARE - SKI IN & OUT (item 200113873964 end time Jun-03-07 18:15:00 PDT)

I saw that one too! It's an ok deal. I'm glad that it did go up as I'd be kicking myself for not bidding if it went for a lot less. I did that on another Whistler 2BR unit recently and have regretted it since.

DJ, what would you say is a good price for a Raintree week like this? This is the first one I've seen on eBay in a while.

Just to show how much prices have dropped. Four years ago, I'm pretty sure that an Aspens week 10 would have sold for a minimum of $10,000 US.

                Steve,

Are you talking TS prices in general, or Raintree/Whiskijack in particular?

Are you looking for Raintree specific or Whistler specific? You're right that this is the first Whistler Whiskijack that I've seen on ebay for a while. However, I do see the Mexico Raintree resorts on ebay semi-regularly, typically the Club Regina ones. I haven't really kept track of pricing but most of the gold Mexico Raintrees go for around that $2500 - $3500 range while the platinum are more $3500 - $5000.

When I looked into the Whiskijack Whistler resorts a couple years ago, you had to be careful because a unit wasn't automatically enrolled in the Raintree point program. You had to pay an additonal fee to join (big $$). Someone please jump in if I'm wrong but that was what I seem to remember when I looked into it. That, plus the large resort transfer fee turned me off.

I'm sure Steve and some others follow Whistler resales as I do. I'd say that what this unit sold for has been the going rate on ebay for 2BR ski season weeks in general over the last 3 years. I can't comment on before that period. Fixed week ski weeks on Redweeks and MRN are listed for that 10K + range.

I am referring to a 2-bedroom unit for that specific week in that specific resort.

I haven't been following Whistler ski resorts that closely for several years, ever since I concluded that renting in Whistler was cheaper than owning and sold the WJ we owned.

I am very confident in saying that at the time I bought and sold, a primo ski season fixed week 2-bedroom unit in at the Aspens was worth considerably more than $6000. Float weeks typically sold for $6000 - but not a prime ski week.

Thanks guys, appreciate you sharing the knowledge.

I'm not interested in Whiskijack so much as the flexibility Raintree offers to ski Whistler, Park City and Telluride. From what I've read, though, the demand for those internal trades is so high that they're not easy to get. Because of that, if I purchased, I'd want a ski week to fall back on, so that if I found trading difficult, I'd still be able to consistently ski my home resort.
