  • Postcard companies and how to stop them.

As I said on TUG, I don't want to put anyone out of business. These companies are still going to find stupid people who will pay thousands of dollars to get rid of their timeshares. We cannot stop them completely--no way can we hurt the stronger ones, like Timeshare Relief and Vacation Solutions. We can make it harder for all of them to get weeks from the owners at our own resorts.

I suggest that all of us contact our own resorts and let them know about these companies, describing in detail what the postcards say and how the scam works. Give examples of eBay sales from your particular resort as proof that owners are going this direction. Then suggest that the resort take weeks back from owners with maintenance fees paid in full, or even add in another year of maintenance fees.

Some resorts will not be able to do it. They know there is no money to be made and plenty to be lost, so they will opt out. But some HOA's and management companies may look at this as an opportunity to get weeks into inventory for rentals or RTU weeks that current owners will rent or buy.

Timeshare Relief isn't getting all dogs. They have tons of Fairfield points, Hawaii weeks, summer beach, even Marriotts. These guys have created an income for themselves based on others' personal problems.

How are these resorts going to get rid of the weeks? They can advertise them here at 4MS or on TUG; with an ad on various websites like Redweek and MRN; place an add on eBay (Rockridge in Breck had a very successful eBay ad that sold many of their inventory units in one 30-day run); and even Timesharing Today may be providing a space for resorts to give away weeks. I suggested it in a letter to them that should be in next month's issue, and Ray Jacobs was very receptive to my ideas.

First, owners should get the opportunity to take advantage of free weeks, so most of the prime weeks will be easy to turn around.

So what do you think? Are you with me, guys?

Well, I would like to put them out of business as they are pretty close to the scum of the earth. Unfortunately they will always be able to find some uninformed souls who can be conned out of their TS and cash, even if that TS is a Marriott, Royal or Hilton.
