  • Should I cancel the sale? Please help!

Ok, went to Williamsburg Plantation for the tour, not really planning to buy but..... Took the tour and it seemed nice. They said it is a 5 star resort and very easy to trade off and get in at other places ($139 domestic/$164 international fee to trade). This is an Interval property by the way, they said it was better than the "points" deals. Started off at $28,000, then some "deal" at $13,000. I finally bit and ended up with a 4BR every 3rd year (week 7, the week of President's Day) which I can break into 2 2BR's (paying the $139 exchange fee for the 2nd yr). I also got 3 "bonus weeks" every 3 years which are about $164 a week for domestic. The maintenance fee is $485 (162/yr). This deal started at $5990 but talked them down and caught a mistake, etc., ended up at $4490. The reason I took this and didn't try to find a "used" deal is they said I needed the "Gold Card" to be able to trade off to use other resorts, which I will probably want to do most years.

I have until Friday to cancel the sale, did I get a decent deal or should I cancel? Could I get a "used" one cheaper and would I be able to trade off if I do go that route? Would really appreciate any help/advice from the community as this is my first time doing this.

    Thanks and God bless.

you can get "used" deal much cheaper, maybe only 30% of that cost.

You can get used that trade better.

I saw one a year or so ago that went for under $ 500 on EBAY. The Gold Card is almost worthless and has nothing to do with trading- its for using the amenities while you are not staying at the resort and they used to have some discounts available outside the resort. Williamsburg is overbuilt and trading is only really good for the very red seasons- mainly summer (JUly & August)

If the others were not clear enough. RESCIND!!

Although Williamsburg Plantation is nice there are many others that you can get for 1/10 (or less) the price. Including Williamsburg Plantation. As long as you have questions you shouldn't buy now.

        RESCIND!!

        Good Luck

There are many resale TS for sale, the most straight forward is Ebay.

All TS bought resale will be able to be traded within the exchange companies affiliate with the resort. (either II or RCI) Also many TS can be traded with independant exchange companies too.

But before buying do some research and buy what will work best for you and your budget.

If you look at the site Gracey posted, note that anyone asking over 5k for even the best weeks will not sell it. The week 6 for $ 10,000 might end up being saleable at about $ 500. Many people trying to sell have no idea what their timeshare is really worth. Every other year almost always sells for less than 1/2 of every year and every 3rd year will probably only be worth 20% of the every year market price.

Recind and start learning. Spend time on this site, plus other timeshare sites. I would say that you should spend 6-12 months before you buy, ask questions, etc. You will be happy that you did and will save a ton of money and have a better unit to use and trade.

Gold card is BS. 5* is BS, trading power is all about location and time period supply and demand. Wk7 Presidents week is BS, nobody goes to Wmbg that week. It will trade worse than crap.
I follow some Williamsburg resorts and Wk7 4BR can be had for $1 plus closing costs. It stinks. You won't be able to trade for anything, even summer weeks are mediocre traders.
... not enough time for all the timeshares ®

Nice to see you back, Spence.

Definitely rescind! Don't delay and be sure to send your rescission with return receipt requested. We rescinded a deal and got our little card back from the post office a few days later, and we actually had the company charge our credit card for our first month's payment, 45 days later, so if you don't get that little postcard back, you won't have proof. We just battled with them yesterday over the charge on our credit card. The post office is backing us up on this one. The proof is the important thing to have. I am glad I paper-clipped the card to our wall calendar.

Not the best timeshare in an overdeveloped area with a week that isn't popular for this tourist destination. I agree with everyone else, get out of that contract.

There are literally dozens of quality resorts in Williamsburg for sale on E-bay that are every year usage during better seasons for a fraction of what you've paid.

I agree with advice offered already to RESCIND, but I'll be a bit more specific.

On your contract (toward the bottom, or on the back, and probably in the tiniest micro-font imaginable), there are very specific terms / conditions / instructions regarding exercising your right of rescission. Follow those instructions to the letter and send any and all correspondence by certified mail, return receipt requested. Don't make pointless (and legally worthless) phone calls and don't just send your rescission materials by "regular" mail (which you can't later prove conclusively was sent at a specific date and time). Keep good quality photocopies of everything you have in your possession (and of everything you send back by mail).
                        ..........DO IT NOW!

As mentioned before be sure to send it registered or certified mail (fastest delivery) with a return card receip and follow instructions to the letter.

Thanks to all who replied. I am thinking of taking the day off tomorrow and go down there in person to do it. Thoughts?

                            Thanks again.
