  • Upfront fee companies posting? Does this seem like a shill poster to you?

Our resort actually has upfront fee companies recommended on their site! - Page 6 - TUG Bulletin Board

The last entry I made was in answer to Fubarjam. I am trying to figure out if this is a person who is working for Timeshares Only. I looked at all of his/her posts and I find the guy very suspicious.

I am surprised that others have not jumped on this one, as some people seem to be saying that these upfront fee companies are brave to post on TUG, with all of our "sarcasm and jabs," and that the fees are necessary on the front end for the service they provide.

    Are they kidding me?

    Cindy,

I'm on dial up, so I haven't had a chance to read your thread. Wow, you are popular these days. Good for you. (yes, that's the other GFY. LOL).

I did read the post you pointed out. Without reading any of the other posts on the thread, I'd say that he is just a relatively new timesharer who doesn't know that much about how timesharing works behind the scenes. He is just using his knowledge of the real estate business and business in general to draw conclusions.

The upfront listing fee companies exist because the good alternatives are so hard to find. I spoke to a gentleman yesterday who wanted to sell his timeshare because he was so frustrated with all the lies he had been told. Before he called, I told him, above all else, I will tell you the brutal truth. He was thrilled after our call because he finally felt like someone was leveling with him. He also said that if he ever saw XYZ or ABC again that we would be seeing him on the evening news. That's how angry he was at his sales gal and the timeshare resale lady from timeshare by owners who took him for another $500 without any chance of selling his timeshare.

The biggest problem with upfront fee sellers is that they get people to list their timeshare way too high. As a result, other sellers see high listings and thing that that is the going rate. It isn't. As a result, these timeshares sit on the market for years at a time before they finally give up and sell.

If prices were listed at more reasonable prices, the market would clear faster and this would hurt timeshare post card companies. Unfortunately, upfront fee listing companies and post card companies are related.

      Cindy,

I read and was curious about the "fubar" dude but after reading their other six or seven other posts, they seemed to me to be in good faith and not a shill for TO. I think they are simply naive, new and wanting to believe the best in that yutz and his company.

Shopgirl ..... I followed your thread, on TUG, with great interest. As a newbie, I learned a lot about how these guys operate and how they justify the things they do. I didn't think I had enough experience to contribute, so I just lurked in the background. I did ask one question though. I wondered why he resurected a six month old thread. Was it just to blow his own horn and try to convince people that he was a good guy? I guess he is just your average buisness man. Anyway, thanks for continuing the good fight and helping to educate us new guys.

fubarjam posted a link to a timeshare closing company on an earlier post he made. That lead me to my question to the upfront-fee company as to what timeshare closing service they use.

Seems to me that fubarjam probably has something to do with the closing company, which is a real estate attorney. Real estate attorneys think Realtors and brokers are unnecessary and would love to take over the real estate business. They feel that we are practicing law without a license.

Could there just be a little finesse in posting in favor of Timeshares Only? A trick to get us thinking that this guy is not associated with the company in question seems logical.

I notice that "bar" is in the middle of this guy's name, as in bar exam? I just can't figure out the rest of the puzzle. What do the other letters represent? Anyone agree that I might be onto something?

So taking that bit of info, FUBARJAM could be "F'ed Up Beyond All Repair -Just Another Mess"

bar is a place to get drinks, and maybe he just came from a crowded one when he made up the name.

Anyone that spent time in the military would recognize FUBAR. At least, the military of my time (I may be dating myself). The Wikipedia has the correct meaning. Not sure what the JAM part, at the end, is supposed to signify.

I used to stop in occasionally for a beer at a bar in Pleasant Hill, CA called FUBAR's. Was right next to our church.

Funny name for him to choose, then. I got a kick out of your quick replies, and I do feel a bit crazy.
