  • wireless internet access?

I've been reading all the ebay listings to see what's out there, and which resort offers what. Only a few have internet- why is that?

I was fine for a week without my internet and email, but my husband would go into withdrawl. If I have any hope of getting him to travel, internet would be a necessity.

    So who has it?

Most, if not all, WorldMark resorts have internet access in various modes.
    • A few (usually in remote areas such as Discovery Bay, WA) have 1 or 2 PCs at or near the check-in area with dial-up connections.
    • Some have machines with high-speed (broadband) connection
    • WorldMark Angels Camp had machines with broadband access as well as free WiFi at the lobby area.
      • No 'net access in units, yet!
    • Recent news: 50 WorldMark resorts will have high speed internet available in units for $5 per day.
    • The following already have high speed net access in units
    • Four Seasons Aviara has internet access (paid) in units.
    • Marriott Newport Coast has free WiFi in units.
    • Marriott Timberlodge also seem to have free WiFi

The Orlando Marriotts have free high speed internet. I would guess that all Marriotts do?

Speaking as an owner at three resorts that do not provide complimentary high speed internet in the units, it's probably because of the expense that the POA/HOA isn't willing to incur to provide the service. Many have a business center when you can use the PC and internet . . . most have free local calls so you can use dial up. So it is possible to stay at a timeshare and still have connectivity, just not as fast or convenient as some may want.

If it is a critical service, you may need to make some calls to resorts before booking exchanges into them to make sure they have WIFI.

Some resorts that don't offer wi-fi are in areas that you can rent the service for a nominal fee from a local service provider .

and then others you can't get anything....I go thru withdrawal at a lot of eastcoast beach resorts but find I enjoy them anyway.

              Wireless

Wireless rocks but when it's not available I use AOL via dial-up for travel.
Seems to never fail me as they most generally have access numbers for all the resort areas we've traveled.
              In fact....
I have never not been able to access the net via AOL dial-up when traveling in the US.
Even had total success @ Christmas Mountain Village in Wisconsin Dells, WI a week ago when we were there and that's a heavily wooded area.
*No, I do not have stock in AOL nor do I have relatives or friends who work for them. *

Thanks for the responses- now I know another thing to look for. I think I'd go insane with dial up after having cable for several years.

                  Using dial-up on vacation

I totally agree w/ you Holly.
I miss my cable modem when I am traveling as well.
                  But....
I spect the dial-up is better than nothing.
                  Have a great evening.
