  • Let's write letters to Timesharing Today!

The site is Welcome to Timesharing Today

I wrote a letter to the magazine, in response to Ray Jacobs' visit with Timeshare Relief. I asked them to donate space in their magazine for resorts to give away inventory weeks. The letter was published, but no answer to my request was provided.

This is going to be good for the magazine, because it will make more people aware.
    TimeSharing Today Page 29 Jul/Aug, 2007
We have been subscribers of your
magazine for many years, and have even contributed reviews
and articles to your publication. We own 19 timeshares at the
present time and are constantly assessing and evaluating our
timeshare portfolio. We do not feel “stuck” with any of our ownerships
and know we can easily sell any of our weeks, with a wellwritten
ad, posted on many different resale sites.
Personally, I have a big problem with companies that charge exorbitant fees to relieve timeshare owners of what they own. Some timeshares are not worth much, that is true
enough, but many timeshares that these companies acquire are
very valuable. They sell large numbers of Hawaii weeks on eBay.
I have purchased from their companies, though unknowingly.
They do not disclose the amounts they expect to sell the timeshares
for. Within two weeks of one of their presentations, Timeshare
    Relief lists them on eBay.
Now for a crazy suggestion: If all resorts would just allow
owners to give their deeds back, with one or two years of maintenance
fees in advance to give the resorts time to resell and giveaway
weeks, we could cut down on the need for these companies.
I see a movement toward that direction, where resorts are
able to offer this as an alternative to owners who feel so desperate
that they would pay these companies to rid themselves of a
    timeshare.
Along with that, I am hoping TimeSharing Today
would consider donating a page in the classified ads
for HOA’s to advertise these weeks for free, with the
only cost being the closing. If we get the names of
resorts out there, we can help all timeshare owners by getting
these unwanted weeks into new owners’ hands. Of course, valuable
weeks would rarely, if ever, be listed for free. It would be
older resorts with HOA boards that would take advantage of the
free ad space. This would help your publication, when newsletters
go out, explaining the plan for marketing weeks. Plus, your
magazine would be providing a great alternative.
I know we can make this plan work. For resorts that are currently
in developers’ hands, there should be no issue with taking
weeks back from unhappy owners. I expect more of the bigger
companies and resorts that are still in the business of sales to
realize that it is in their best interests to take weeks back that are
fully paid for. Why wouldn’t they? They can always resell them.
We only need to help the smaller resorts, the underdogs. I
see no reason for resorts to hire lawyers and take weeks back by
force, at such a great expense. This would help resorts and owners
alike. Plus, readership for your magazine will go up, as more
and more opportunities for free weeks start appearing in your
magazine. People really do buy those eBay $1.00 weeks.
Please do not sign my full name if you choose to publish
this letter, as I have purchased from at least one of these postcard
companies and they know who I am. I worry about retribution.

What a well written letter. I hope you see something come of it. It would be good for timesharing and for all of us.

            Shopgirl,
When writing this public letter be extremely careful to write it honestly and without enlarging any perceived event or misrepresenting it as fact. You could be sued for libel. A case could be made for what you've written elsewhere on this site, perhaps, as companies were named. So no embellishing or distorting of facts unless you have deep pockets. You would have to prove attacks in any form and so far you've shown nothing which supports the alleged events.

This is yet another example of not wanting to hear anyone else's opinion but your own. Jeanne (who is an incredibly bright and fair person) gave you a legal point of view on your argument, and since you don't like it, you want to close the thread. I find that sad. And this has nothing to do with the topic at hand...this could be any topic.

I will also say that this will be the last time I post on this issue. (And when I say that, I mean it.) I just couldn't let Jeanne's wise words and the response to them stand without one last comment.

                    Sharon, Thank you.
Shopgirl, I gave you many chances to cite an attack or verbal abuse, but you never once addressed your own allegations. As far as I can see, they are without merit, that is, non-existent.
Yes, for truth's sake, let's close this as truth is always the first casualty of war.

                      Not Closed Yet . . .

. . . so I figured I would add my two cents worth.

I feel that it inappropriate for people to think or expect Cindy or anyone else, to post PM's and/or e-mails send privately in which attacks and verbal abuse occur. People do not have a right or need to know what was said privately to offend another person. I don't know what "right" anyone has to expect such to be shared. Just because a PM wasn't shared doesn't mean it didn't happen.

It is true that what I consider offensive or "attacking" may not be the same as someone else, but that doesn't mean I should be expected to "share" the offensive material as in to justify or validate the fact that I felt attacked.
