New Interval Int'l Owner w/ Question

Hi there,

Brand new to this whole scene. To trade out, are the only choices I have on the interval intern'l website when I hit my exchange button? Or when I deposit to request certain locations, do I get better choices than what is on the website (in other words, are the choices on the website leftovers???)

How can I trade weeks with another person to get to a destination that I want?

Yes, the available weeks you see on the website are the "leftovers" after ongoing search requests have been filled. It's fun to shop there, but if you need a specific time and want a specific place, an ongoing search is the better approach.

I've never tried to just trade with an individual. It's hard enough to get what I need through the exchange companies.

Request First is the only way as a mere paying member

With a deposit and ongoing request you stand a very real chance of having to settle for some Podunk resort you don't want simply to keep from losing your week. If you only choose from the online choices it can be little more than the unwanted leftovers. Your best bet as an individual member of II, the lowest on their totem pole of priorities, is to only use the "request first" system. That says you want resort XXX, size YYY, date ZZZ and they don't get your deposit until you get your trade. It is about the only leverage you hold over them. Be prepared to be bombarded with incorrect resorts, units and dates (which happens with II no matter how you make your request) but if you hold firm you'll either get a trade you can live with or your week back. Both are better than being forced to accept the unacceptable simply not to lose your deposit.
